Life here is so orderly, so predictable—so painless. It’s what they’ve chosen” (p. 103-black book, p. 130-white book). Explain the significance of this quote.
The quote is explaining that they've chosen to have a simple life. They have found ways to keep the community from pain and anything that could cause disruption. -Elena Erdley

Based on Jonas’ experiences with snow and sunshine, what can you infer about the community? Use text evidence to support your answer.
I can infer that the community likes everything to be the same. They also like for there to be no distinct colors. The text says, "We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others"(Lowry 95). This shows that they had to create a happy medium and try to please everyone.- Sarah Vinson
I can infer from these memories that the community no longer has these things because the creators of the community probably took them away for the benefit of the people. Page 95 says, "We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others." To explain, there was probably an opportunity in the far past to remove these things that can cause pain to people, so they were removed for good. -Ben Schreier

“…The books are forbidden to citizens” (p. 102-black book, p. 128-white book). What does this quote imply about the citizens?
IIt implies that while they may not be illiterate, they have not read fiction novels or even books about anything before their Utopia was created. They have been treated as children that are being kept safe from how the world used to work and the natural occurrences of life.-Elena Erdley
This quote implies that some of the jobs in the community are very secretive. The citizens would not be able to handle the job of receiver. They would also not be able to learn about it if they were not chosen. The community would go chaotic if everyone could remember the memories of the past.- Sarah Vinson

If Jonas was released as the receiver, I think he would try to spread his memories to the people in the community before he would leave. This would cause him to violate the rules as receiver, but Jonas would still want to. All of the memories of the past would be gone along with Jonas. Without these memories and the receiver, there would be no community to live in.- Sarah Vinson
If jonas was released he would probably have to undergo something to give his memories back. The community would need to wait for another receiver. When he is released there would be no ceremony. He would be forgotten. -Zac F.

Do you think Jonas will tell his memories to somebody in the community? Why or why not? -Jason Wewer
[I think he would share the memories to his close friends, family, or a resistnce to help describe things, help a resistance against the community, or share his experiences with his family - Matt H. :lock:
I don't think Jonas will share his memories with the community because in his job instructions it wrote on page 68, "Do not share your training with any other members of the community," and Jonas has never been known to break the rules. -Ben Schreier
I think that he will tell his memories to somebody in the community. First off, he felt left out and alone because of his assignment. Eventually, he will not be able to handle it anymore. Also, the Giver gave him many great memories and he might try to give them to others so that they can experience the great feelings as well.- Sarah Vinson
Why would the elders ban all books, and not just certin books to the citizens, and will this reveal/show an otherwise hidden plot twist, motive, or ending to the book?
Matt H.
These specific books are held and kept so that the community cannot have them. They probably hold important information about other communities, the past, or new learnings. I don't think these book will reveal a plot twist of some kind. These books are essential to Jonas and his future but I believe they won't have a major effect. - Jason Wewer

True, but you never know Matt H.
If the community decided to go back to the old way for some reason what would happen? How do you think they could achieve this? -Zac F.
I feel like this would have to be a gradual process. I think that they'd have to slowly take back rules and let more freedoms to the people. It is always hard for people to change their ways especially when it's all they know.-Elena Erdley
