What is the Sameness and why did they create it?-Ryan Wilson
no
How does Jonas being able to lie, open his eyes to how deceiving other people in the community could be? -Kerrigan
Jonas recently finds out about snow, and the old receiver of memories tells him that there is more to the world than just their community. Jonas, and the receiver are 2 of the few people who know about the outside world. What do you think would happen if other people in the community were to find out about the outside world? Why would they do/think such thing? -Kyra Keefer
The sameness is a way for no one to be better than anyone else so everyone is equal.-Sam L.
I believe that Jonas' ability to see beyond means he is starting to see colors. In multiple cases throughout the text, he saw things change for a brief moment and soon found out through the Giver that he was starting to see colors. I think that people in the community cannot see these colors. I also think that they are not supposed to see these colors.-Ryan Wilson
Jonas´s ability to see beyond is to be able to see color. As explained in the book the giver tells Jonas that sometimes he will be able to see the color red and that during his training he will be able to see more colors. This implies that for the rest of the community they cannot see colors. - Brady Lambert

Yes, because there is no possible way that this much informations can be held in one vessel. I think he will get overwhelmed and run away. Sam L.
Jonas's ability to see beyond is that he can see things as they once were before the sameness. I read, "It is how wisdom comes. And how we shape our future" (Lowry 98).This implies that the community relies on the receiver to give them knowledge and guidance on things that are out of their memory. -Kerrigan

I believe that it was important for him to see the memory of the dying elephant. I believe that this was so important because there is no violence or conflicts within the community. If he didn't see this, he would think that the world is perfect. If he thought that the world was perfect, than he wouldn't be able to do his job properly.-Ryan Wilson
What do you think the next memory that the Giver tells Jonas will be?-Rachel Buono
How do you think the community would react if Jonas applied for release? Why?
Jonas being given the ability to lie might allow him to think he can abuse his powers as the receiver of memories. He could use his ability to learn new things, learn things he shouldn't know, or he could use his ability to lie against people, or at his own expense. -Kyra Keefer
What job do you think Jonas would have gotten if he hadn't been chosen for receiver? -Sam L.
First of all, that is a very interesting question. I think bad things would happen if he applied for release. He would get in a huge amount of trouble not only within his family, but the community too. If he was successful in his release, extremely bad things would happen. The community would not have a Receiver of Memory, so know one would know the truth.-Ryan Wilson
Based on Jonas' experiences with snow and sunshine I can infer that the rest of the community hasn't seen or felt this type of weather. I say this because in the text it states ¨It was not as exciting as the ride through the snowy air; but it was pleasurable and comforting". This shows that Jonas and probably the rest of the community has never felt sunshine. - Brady Lambert
Life in the community is all the same tasks, people, feelings, thoughts, and everyday life there is no change. It is implying that Jonas has discovered that life is different form the memories that he is receiving. -Rachel Buono

That is a very good question. I think he definitely would of gotten something a lot less important. He probably would of gotten something along the lines of maintenance crew or something else like that. This would of been really humiliating for him.-Ryan Wilson
I wouldn't know any memory that is important for Jonas to know yet, since we're only halfway through the book. But, I think something important that Jonas has learned is the fact that their community is not the only civilization out there. When he learned about snow, and sunshine, he also learned about the world outside the community a little. I think it is important that he known about the outside world because it would open his eyes to so many new and different experiences. Which, he'd have to learn, but, he wouldn't experience them at all if it weren't for memories given to him, as the memory of snow was given to him. -Kyra Keefer

I think the community would have no sympathy for Jonas because they have no idea how burdening his job is. Also, I think that he would be forced to stay because his role is so important in the community, and they can't risk him leaving because of all the knowledge of the past he now has. -Kerrigan
Its difficult to predict, but he´ll probebly start the next day off with a happy memory but get worse and the end with a happy memory.- Sam L.

The thing is, Jonas knows he can't apply for release. It is one of the rules he was given to follow when he started training to be the receiver of memories. If Jonas was to leave the community, he'd most likely need to run away, or escape. Not that there is a reason to escape for now, but there will most likely be a reason to in the future if he were to need a reason to leave. Maybe he'd want to escape the community and see the outside world around the community? -Kyra Keefer (You also forgot to add your name to credit yourself to the question.)

Thats a good point, but i said that he might have gotten a job in the House of the Old, or in something related to the laws because he seems to try to correct his sister for her not following the rules.- Sam L.
I agree with you. Knowing so many things that others don't could lead him to new questions. He doesn't understand so much of the community, and is beginning to uncover things that were hidden from him. The text stated, "But he had no way of knowing if the answers he received were true" (Lowry 90). He is beginning to question everyone. How do you think this will begin to impact his job?
I agree with Brady in the fact that the community has never seen any type of weather that has to deal with sickness. I believe that the community looks like a normal community except with no types of weather (snow,rain,sunburn)- Rachel Buono

Now that Jonas is able to lie his eyes open to the fact that anyone could lie in the community without anyone knowing that they are lying. He finds that anyone could be trying to deceive him so he is much more paranoid than he was before - Brady Lambert

I think this will impact his job by making him think about it in a negative view. It may make him think that the job he was so excited about, isn't what he thought it to be. He may think that he wants a new job, and it may create a negative impact on his life, or some sort of conflict. -Kyra Keefer
