“Life here is so orderly, so predictable—so painless. It’s what they’ve chosen” (p. 103-black book, p. 130-white book). Explain the significance of this quote.
This quote is kind of what the community is based of off. Everyone is clueless, the community is colorless, and no one knows real pain. And they don't even know about the real world. Tim K

Based on Jonas’ experiences with snow and sunshine, what can you infer about the community? Use text evidence to support your answer.
Based on Jonas' experience with snow and sunshine I can infer that he doesn't know what these things are. I can infer that the community's weather stays the same and doesn't change. I know this because Jonas never heard of snow or sunshine before. - Kadee Books
Jonas was given different memories that involved snow and sunshine. In the text it states, "Well, it's a place to start. I'd been wondering how to begin. Move to the bed, and lie face down. Remove your tunic first" (Lowry 99). This tells me, The Giver is going to start with giving Jonas information about snow. I can tell the community is not exposed to many things and they do not know things that we would call normal. - Molly K.
I believe that Jonas broke the rule in chapter thirteen because in the text it says that Jonas told his sister that there were real live elephants way back but she did not believe him. He even went as far as trying to give her the memory. Ness Marzanoo
“…The books are forbidden to citizens” (p. 102-black book, p. 128-white book). What does this quote imply about the citizens?
This quote means the community is not exposed to books. The community does not want their citizens to have access to books because that gives them information and tells them things about the world. The citizens do not know much... Jonas is learning many new things with his job. This is what I think this quote means. - Molly K.

Do you think it's a good idea for one person (the receiver) to hold all of the memories? Ness Marzanoo
I think it is a terrible idea. Even though the community is supposedly very safe, if anything happens to the receiver or the giver, the memories are lost forever. In my opinion, simple things like sunshine should not be hidden from society. It is absolutely pointless in my opinion. -Tim K.
No. All the pain and feelings crammed into one person can make them distance themselves from the community and can make them crazy. Alexandria Keefer

In chapter 7, when Jonas was not given a job and skipped... would you feel the same way as him? Why? - Molly K.
