- - - - Jonas's ability to see beyond is related to see what others can not. He can see outside the "border" of their community. Nobody else but the Giver and Jonas (the receiver) can see the outside world. Everyone else thinks things like animals and color and the outside world are imaginary. Jonas can see beyond their imagination.
- - - - I don't think that Jonas knows what a hill is because the community is flat and there is no need to know what a hill is when there are none. If their community had hills and different elevations then they might know what it is. They community has no idea about color so they don't need to know about color or learn anything about it so they don't need to know what hills are. This is also why Jonas needs to learn about color because he can see it. -Sam Hostetter
