The Giver - Chapters 7-13
What is Jonas' ability to see beyond? What does that imply for the rest of the community?
to see color in everthing the of the commuity only can see in black and white NB
Jonas is seeing colors and can go back into his dreams. I think that the rest of the community may also start seeing colors. EC
Jonas can see colors and go back in his dreams and has the ability to see and feel stuff like snow and sunburn that regular citizens can not. HM
it tells me that they are blinded by the fact or truths of what really outside this world but it tell me that they are a community that is nothing but people who are scared WF
Jonas
got ability to see old generation memory.
All of citizen in community can't do it because they have one-generation memory.
Jonas
is seeing color because of having memory of color.
Also, citizen can't see color. They only see white and black.
AG
He was starting to see color and feel a little of pain to his body. The community may find out that Jonas has lied to them. And they would have to kick him out from the community. AHW
I agree with you Ania because I do remember when Jonas had
a little pain in him and then he saw the color red,but then he was starting to go back into his dreams to the sled. EC
I think that the giver gave his memory's about the utopia to Jonas because he can have those memory's when he gets older and he can give those memory's to the next receiver. JC
jonas ability is to see color. by
Based on Jonas' experiences with snow and sunshine, what can you infer about the community? Use text evidence to support your answer.
that they live in a dark and warm invarerment with unatrial light "before samemess before climate control" NB
The evidence to support this clam is that they are the only one who knows what show's it evidence to support this claim is ' now i will transmit the memory of snow ' this tell me that the people of the community are afraid of snow .WF
The dont have snow or other weather its the same the whole time because jonas was shocked to find out what snow and sunshine was. HM
What I can infer from the community is that thy do not get any snow or sunshine from where they are and to not know what snow or the sunshine is in there life. EC
That they don't know what snow or sunshine is so the quote that i found is "what words can i use to describe snow and sunshine. JC
when jonas is older the community will have snow and sunshine by
There is no snow or sunshine because it have big negative.
"Climate control. Snow made growing food difficult, limited the argricultural periods."
AG
That they don't know what snow and sunshine is "What words could you use to describe sunshine and snow.".JC
"...The books are forbidden to citizens." What does this quote imply about the citizens?
I think the quote means that they are not allow to read or touch the books. Because it is maybe aganist the rules in the community and if they break that rules they will get punished for that. AHW
I think that they do not want the kids knowing things or have them making some decisions on themselves. EC
Why would making decisions themselves be a problem? Mrs. M
the thing means that they are the only ones can read books because they only believe that if they read books they will start to have there feeling come back and do stuff to hurt the community WF
Who are the only ones who can read books? Mrs. M
That the citizens unaware of the past and that the elders want to keep them in the dark about the past NB
I think this
quote
mean that
citizen can't read it because it has information that citizen can't understand.
AG
I can agree with the thing you said . I tell me that they do not want anyone like kids to read and imagine books , So i agree with what you said WF
They dont want them to read and learn stuff that they dont want them to so they dont find out about colors, snow, sunshine, etc. HM
people are black and white in this community by
I think that the books are forbidden to citizens because they don't want kids knowing things or have them making decisions by themselves.JC
"Life here is so orderly, so predictable - so painless. It's what they've chosen." Explain the significance of this quote.
this quote shows me or them that the community that jonas lives in is nuts about keeping everything perfect and that they chose this way of life for them WF
The community is always alike so there is no confusion and it is known what to do and they are never forgetting because, it is they same every time. HM
They mean that they have chose the way that they way. And I think they have a painful life in their hands if they don't follow the rules. AHW
Do you think their life is better off being so orderly and predictable? Mrs. Mukusa
Yes so they know what is going on and then they know what to do if some thing happens. HM
What about all the fun stuff they miss out on? Sledding? Rainbows? Mrs. Mukusa
they dont know ab out that and they would not even have the idea like that but the community also has been the same so they might not beleive they are real things. HM
You're correct that they don't know any different but is there life better not knowing all of that just to avoid differences, death, etc.
No. Because they have a life that they have to follow everyday and they don't even get to have fun at all. AHW
No because they may have other things that they love to do or have stuff planed or have some activitys to do in the community. EC
What I think that it is telling us that it is somewhere that you can not get hurt or you can not feel any pain from the community that they live in. EC
I agree with Beth, because they are trying to tell us that they can not feel pain or how they feel everyday in the community. AHW
there life is already plan by
This quote is trying to explain that life here is better because it is painless.
People from past chose to do that.
AG
I think they mean that they have choose the way that they want. And they would have a painful, life. JC
Do you think when they get assigned a job that they get paid or not why or why not WF
when you get released what happens to your body when you die or get released WF
how do they see only inblark and white NB
i don't think they see black and white because they got rid of colors and black and white are colors WF
I agree with Wyatt because they may not have any colors in the community , until Jonas sees the color read from chapter 12, and then sees green on chapter 13. EC
I think they may have removed color due eliminate differences in people since all of our skin tones are different that would allow for sameness. Mrs. Mukusa
I think they may not see the black and white anymore. Because they may change the color and try to make the community colorful if they can. AHW
would you want to become a receiver om memory why or why not WF
It seems like an awfully heavy burden to carry. I don't think that I would want to be the receiver of memory. Mrs. Mukusa
if the councel has no memories of the past why do things they same why dont they grow NB
Will Jonas see the rest of the colors of the rainbow or not? AHW
Yes he will start to see the rest of the colors of the rainbow because the giver said that you will start to see all the colors when you continue their journey . WF
I think that Jonas will start seeing the rest of the colors of the rainbow because if he started to see red and green he may also start to see the rest of the colors. EC
Do you beleive that jonas should have more free time? Why or why not? HM
How would you react if you saw colors and rainbows from there point of view? EC
It would be so exciting and beautiful to see something like that for the first time. I think we take it for granted sometimes because it is part of our daily lives. Mrs. Mukusa
I would be like so excited that I can see the color of the rainbow and I would take a picture to tell my friends about it. AHW
How long do you think the giver will have to live to give Jonas the memories that he needs? AHW
He has a while to live it's says in the text that the memories aged him but he still gots years to live . WF
I agree with Wyatt. I do wonder though if he gives away all his memories if he will truly enjoy life at all anymore? Or maybe he'll keep a few memories for himself. Mrs. Mukusa
Would you want to stay in the community or try to leave and survive on your on would you ? WF
How gi
would you take the pill. why or why not by
if you could pick your job what would it be? by
Why giver exist?
AG
How giving memory of color give a
Jonas
a ability to see color?
AG
Would you want to be a receiver and give memory's that the receiver before gave you?JC
Do you think that its fair getting assigned a job and who you marry? JC
