Body in Motion
Anatomy/Kinesiology
Very helpful in Yoga because it helps you understand that some muscular engagements that are less intuitive can be much more useful to maximize your muscular gain from a certain pose. Also can help improve a pose when you engage a muscle you hadn't thought of before
Skeletal Explorations
Our bones create the framework for the rest of our body that is held up and assisted by our muscles, tendons and organs
The idea that different movements that either expand or compress the organs can facilitate different affective states
-
Learning how to expand from a confined space to utilizing a large area and the challenges and implications that accompany that transition (there is only so much you can do in a confined space so the few actions or stationary position have to be much more telling than a series of actions that you can form in a larger space)
-
Playing with pace in our gesture projects and transitioning between fast and slow to see how it changes the feeling and meaning of the movement pattern (in some ways going slower is actually more challenging but when you increase the pace it is easy to lose some of the intricacies and details of the movements)
-
Contact Improvisation
Class day with Sue and Avery: Practicing fluid movements and working off of each others' actions and adapting while learning to anticipate the movements of others. Learning not to take the explicit leadership role but building upon each other's movements
Movements: Tossing, carving, cutting and flicking
