Diagnostic
The diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students’ individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills prior to instruction.
the purpose of the Diagnostic assessment is to provide the instructor with information about the student's prior knowledge and misconceptions before beginning a learning activity.
- Also provides with a baseline for understanding how much learning has taken place after learning has taken place.
This assessment is for learning, it is similar to the self-assessment where it can be done at the beginning middle or end, where ever it is needed.

High-Stakes
High stakes testing is any test used to make important decisions about students, educators, schools, or district.
These tests are an attempt by federal, state or local government agencies to ensure that the students are enrolled in effective schools and that that they are taught by effective teachers.

The High-Stakes testing is an assessment of learning. It is done once a year and in some cases like the SAT’s, once when completing high school.
Advantages
- Are based on clearly defined standards and provide important information on subjects performance and growth.
- A test can help teachers create a learning plan based on the student's needs
- Improves test-taking abilities and learning how do handle pressure.
Disadvantages
- It causes other subjects other than math or language arts to be sacrificed for time prep
- Pressure on teachers can lead to less creativity and innovation in the classroom “ teach to test”
- It can cause a lot of anxiety

Performance Based
a performance-based learning is when students participate in performing tasks or activities that are meaningful and engaging.
The purpose of this kind of learning is to help students acquire and apply Knowledge, practice skills, and develop independent and collaborative work habits.
This assessment is for learning as it is open-ended and project-based that demonstrates authentic learning
Advantages
- The students are more actively involved in the learning process
- They understand and absorb the material at a much deeper level
Disadvantages
- They can be complex
- They are also time-consuming

Portfolio
Student portfolios are items that a student have created and collected over a specific period of time.
Purpose
- Art portfolios are often used for students who want to apply to art programs in college.
- another purpose is when students collect their written work that shows how they have progressed from the beginning to the end of class
The Portfolio is an assessment used for learning. The student will be collecting and improving their portfolio through the entirety of the year.
Advantages
- an activity like this is something that grows over time and is therefore not just completed and forgotten.
- it can provide students with lasting artifacts that they can use later in their academic career.
Disadvantage of this assessment is that it is a long process that students will need to work on and continuously improve.

Authentic
Assessments where students are asked to perform real-world tasks that demonstrate meaningful application of what they have learned.
Purpose
- To measure students proficiency by asking them to perform real-life tasks
- To provide students with many avenues to learn and demonstrate best what they have learned.

- To evaluate the student's competency
Authentic assessments are for learning as it continuously informs and guides instructions and helps students become better learners. I also help the teacher monitor students' progress, identify their learning needs and they can adjust their instructions accordingly
Advantages
- provides teachers with the true picture of how and where their students are in their learning.
- gives more information about their student's strength and weaknesses. Needs and preferences that aid the teacher in adjusting instructions.
- provides students with alternative ways to demonstrate best what they have learned.
- Offers a wide variety of interesting and challenging assessment activities.
- Assessment is integrated with instruction.
- reveals and enriches the students' high-level cognitive skills
- enhances students' ability to apply skills and knowledge to real-life situations
- teaches the test & doesn’t hide the test

Formative
The goal is to monitor student’s learning to provide ongoing feedback to improve the teacher’s teachings and student learning

Summative
The goal is to evaluate student's learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard benchmark.
The purpose of the summative assessment is to assign grades that tell you if the student achieved the learning goal or not. Also it is used to evaluate student achievements
This is an assessment of learning as it is given at the end of the unit. It is given to evaluate the students understanding of the unit.
Advantages of this assessment are evaluation includes complete chapters or content area and you can cover more content.
Disadvantages of this assessment include testing can cause students anxiety and stress. It is also harder to steer student’s in the right direction.
Examples of a summative assessment include: a final project, or a final test.
Self-Assessment
The Students assess their own contribution as well as their peers using an established set of criteria usually set by the teacher.
Purpose
- aims to help a person identify his own areas of strengths and weakness for a plan to implement change.

This assessment is for and of learning. Student's or teachers can use this assessment during the course of the unit to self-evaluate and reflect on how they can do better right away as they are learning the unit. They can also evaluate themselves after the unit is done after the summative assessment to see how they can improve for the next unit, or what they next to review once they have finished the unit.

Peer-Assessment
The students individually assess each other's contribution using a predetermined list of criteria. Grading is on a predetermined process.
The purpose of using peer assessments is for its role in student skill development in improving learning and in helping other students improve.
the peer assessment can be formative or summative. However, it is more commonly used for learning as a formative assessment.
Advantage
- encourages student involvement and ownership of learning
- opportunity for the students to learn from each other
Disadvantages
- peer pressure and friendship may affect the reliability of the grades given by students
- the student has a tendency to grade everyone similarly
