general evaluation
everyone has a past that is beloved and cherished. Everyone will at some point be targeted by someone or something that makes them long for their past, long to relive a time that was possibly better than that which they are living now. The speaker is struggling to stay firmly in his adulthood, while feeling the urge to allow himself back into his childhood.
Poem's summary
The narrator of this poem is listening to a woman singing while she plays the piano, except that he's not really listening to the music happening around him. Instead, he's listening to the music in his memory, which is taking him back to his childhood and the time he enjoyed sitting under the piano while his mother sang and played.

theme
D. H. Lawrence shows that he is trying to tell others to take advantage of every moment that you have.He wants us to try to appreciate each moment for what it truly is and to look at things from a wider perspective. He wants us to recognize and appreciate the the way things smell, sound, feel. Small details are amazing.
