Kidney failure occurs when your kidneys lose the ability to filter waste from your blood sufficiently.

If the patient is presenting any of the symptoms of kidney failure the doctor may ask to do to this tests:

Urine output measurements. The amount of urine you excrete in a day may help your doctor determine the cause of your kidney failure.

Urine tests. Analyzing a sample of your urine, a procedure called urinalysis, may reveal abnormalities that suggest kidney failure.

Blood tests. A sample of your blood may reveal rapidly rising levels of urea and creatinine — two substances used to measure kidney function.

Imaging tests. Imaging tests such as ultrasound and computerized tomography may be used to help your doctor see your kidneys.

Removing a sample of kidney tissue for testing. In some situations, your doctor may recommend a kidney biopsy to remove a small sample of kidney tissue for lab testing. Your doctor inserts a needle through your skin and into your kidney to remove the sample.

Diet: The kidneys cannot easily remove excess water, salt, or potassium from the blood, so foods high in potassium salt substitutes may need to be consumed in limited quantities.

Medication Different classes of medications may be used to help control some of the issues associated with kidney failure

Dialysis Cleanses the body of waste products in the body by use of filter systems.

Hemodyalisis

Peritoneal dyalisis

Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdominal cavity as the dialysis filter to rid the body of waste and to balance electrolyte levels.

Hemodialysis uses a machine filter called a dialyzer or artificial kidney to remove excess water and salt, to balance the other electrolytes in the body, and to remove waste products of metabolism.

In the study "Epidemiology of Renal Insufficiency in Mexico", released by the Ministry of Health in 2010, it was highlighted that each year there were at least 40,000 new cases of Renal Insufficiency in the country. However, due to a lack of culture of prevention, this condition has had a rapid growth in recent years (11% per year), doubling the incidence of new cases in the Mexican population.

According to a study conducted by the United States Renal Data System (USDRS), in no country are incidence levels as high as in Mexico, where more than 500 patients are reported per million inhabitants.

According to figures recently reported by the Mexican Kidney Foundation, there are currently between 8 and 9 million people with Renal Failure in Mexico, in early stages, 109,000 people with Chronic Renal Failure (stage 5) and about 60,000 people with substitute treatment. of renal function (either peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis).

INEGI has reported that Renal Insufficiency is currently the 5th most important Cause of Death among the Mexican population, since about 12 thousand people die every year due to complications derived from kidney failure.
