Colonies: this is ruled by a colonial official . they are told to go rule this place by the people higher above them. example is GB and the american colonies

protectorate: this ruling is when the country has its own government but its laws and stuff is ruled by an external power
sphere of influence: this is ruled by when an imperial region has investments in something such as trade in another region or country
positive effects
reduced local warfare. in some colonies, sanitation was improved along with hospitals, and schools and education were improving. next was that African goods were valued. next improved the economic system was by creating railroads dams and telephone lines.
negative effects
Africans were losing control of their land. Also the Europeans had brought in many diseases. Lastly was that they were destroying african culture

the countries that were noticeably missing were the African countries. which is weird as it was there land being talked about
they decided on acquiring these lands as they wanted to be able to get more natural resources so they could compete with other countries that had tons of natural resources
