Classification
Psychological Explanations
Cognitive
Faulty attentional bias (can't focus on one stimuli)
Faulty attentional filter (can't select relevant info)
Evaluation:
(S) Supportive research from Stirling et al > Stroop test > 30 sz:18 non-sz participants. Found that sz took longer as they had trouble identifying the colour > faulty attention filter
(S) Supportive research from emotional troop test. Same process yet emotive language was used (i.e. knife, blood, death) > sz took longer as they were focussing on the threat of the word > faulty attention bias
(W) Other explanation (i.e. biological- inherited through genes) > decrease the validity
Family Dysfunction
-From-Reichmann 1948 > Schizophrenogenic Mother (cold and harsh)
-Bateson 1972 > Double-bind (when a positive and negative are both in a comment causing conflicting messages)
-High Levels of Expressed emotion (could feel intruded on or fell like a burden)
Interactionist Approach
