Hot Enviroments
Climate
-
Deserts have a diurnal temperature rage this means that is is very hot in day and cold at night dew to the lack in clouds.
From a graph you can tell weather it is in the Northan or Southan hemispher depending if it is hot in June/July of December/January

manage ment
creating national parks is one way of saving the eges of deserts from deforistaion as well as bringing in money.
magic stones are apropriate management because they are easy to teach and learn as well as efective and inportant for the enviroment.
correct irrigation is key so you do not get salinisation because it affects soil fertility decrasing the chances of good crops.
planting trees is anouther easy but key way of saving the land because they become a wing breack shad and a drip afect for water to help the soil below.
Opotunities
Energy
-
wind most desert including the that are flat and have occasional sand storms so you can get lots of wind energy as well as gaining it over the open plains.
-
-
Tourisum
recently lots of people have been coming to see the natural wonders of a desrt visiting mostly from forigne countaries.
-
Challenges
accsesability
It is very hard for people to be transported in the desert because of the difficulties in building roads due to sand and the heat melting the tarmac as well as the sand blowing over the tarmac so it will have no impact.
water supply
water is now a problem in the Thar desert because the increase in population and the lack of water you can get it from natural pond but usually sharing with animals and it is stagnant there are very few rivers running through such as the river Luni in the thar if you, get your water from aquifers in it is usually salty because of the rocks so bad quality.
hot temperatures
the extream heat in the Thar desert can get up to over 50 degrees this makes very hard working condisions for people as well as quicker evaporation so there will be even less water these condions make it hard for plants and animal to surive they nnormaly have to adapt.
Adaptaions
Plant
The saragoa cactus have smooth waxy skin and 2 inch spins all over and also has ribs that hold water in the arid condions and has shallow roots spread across the surface.
The josua tree grows very quickly and its roots can spread for 36ft to colect alot of water it can live for hundreds of years and its leaves stick to the bark to protect it form the suns rays the leaves have thick waxy skin.
Animal
The jerboa geraly stays under ground and borrows with its strong ind legs defends its self ffrom sand by closing its nostrils and has fur in its ears.
Camals can go meny days without water they have long eyelases to stop sand as well as being able to close its nostrils. camels have wide feet so that they don't sink into the sand.
desitification
desertification is where working land turns into desert this usualy happens on the edges of existing deserts and can occer when land is over grazed.
Over cultivation is a main cause of desertification because land can be over-farmed of grazed leaving dry soil to blow away or fertile soil to be overused without resting.
salinisation is another form of desertification this happens when people water their crops too much and the bad quality salty water is floating on the top surface which then evaporates in the heat and leaves the salt making the ground un-fertile the evaporation will also lift the water table drowning plants at there roots because high senility can kill plants.
climate change is another big factor in desertification the heat and droughts are causing a lot of plants to die to leave the precious delicate soil unprotected.
overpopulation is causing a higher demand for crops and farming which means they can't afford to leave their land to rest so the fertile soil can return which damages the soil and reduce crops causing desertification.
