LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION OF IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

My skill on software's such as Photoshop and InDesign have been enhanced as I have become more confident in relation to the specific tools required to edit for example an image through removing the background or changing the color of, for example, the lips of my model. Initially I found using both these software's difficult, however now i have learnt and gained skills to which I am able to form a professional, sophisticated magazine.
Content was an aspect which i learnt had to be specific to the genre and more importantly the target audience which i learnt to gather through various research methods. Either primary research included questionnaires and secondary research included analysing previous magazines. This i learnt appealed and therefore attract my target audience more towards this magazine due to it satisfying their interests.
I have gained the ability to understand the conventions to which my magazine subverts and follows in order to maximise its attractiveness to my target audience. When comparing this to my preliminary task it is clear the understanding of aspects such as mastheads and sell lines was limited. Due to the intensive research of magazines within a similar genre i soon discovered the aspects used in order to attract their audience and therefore opportunities for me to develop onto my magazine.
Planning a colour scheme also gave me a direction for forming magazine and enabled my to consider factors such as the target audience and genre which i did not consider for the preliminary task and therefore illustrates the difficulties not planning a colour scheme forms which i learnt.
The idea of planning I learnt through the progression of the full product became evident to hold a great importance. I found planning things like the layout through the use of flat plans which i learnt after my preliminary task enabled me to strategically place text across the magazine in an organised way rather than chaotically in the preliminary task.
I found planning font types allowed me to evaluate and determine which font would be readable and be appealing to the audience as a recognisable brand as well as convey the magazines vibe. For example a decorative font is stereotypicallly known to relate to girls.
Through researching i became more confident exploring different page layouts, for example for my contents page which enabled my magazine to become unique and allowed me to become more creative rather than following a conventional layout like my preliminary task.
Photoshoots and planning and preparing my models aswell as me as a photographer has progressed whereby towards the full product I was able to captivate my vision. It was through researching and preparing angles and shots, aswell as analysing different poses for the model in order to be specific on the impression i wanted to form for the target audience. Specifically it is evident i did not consider elements such as direct address for my preliminary task which is vital to grabbing the audiences attention and breaking the fourth wall.
I have learnt and understood the capabilities and significance of research to adopt and appeal increasingly more to the specified target audience
When reflecting and comparing both the front cover and contents page of my preliminary task and my magazine the detail, professionalism and effort that has been put into both products have significantly increased as I have learnt in the progression of my full product the extent to which research and following conventions significantly impacts the overall visual including elements such as the typography, color scheme and layout.
