Platform part 2
Producers & Production
Google’s crawlers, Uber’s drivers, and Instagram’s selfie-clickers are the new producers in the platform economy.
Platform design should start with defining the roles of the producer and consumer and laying out their motivations for participating on the platform.
Understand the motivations of the producers.
Create enabling technology that caters to those motivations.
Have a clear strategy to maximize the number of producers on the platform and the frequency of their participation.
The platform must ensure that all users, regardless of when they join, find equal opportunity.
remove barriers for producers
skill barrier
effort barrier
access barrier
Production interfaces and technologies should be built not with a feature-centric approach but with the intent to lower the barriers to participation in the core interaction.
Consumers & Consumption
Consumption filters: availability, location, time, price, site, type, template, process, jne
forms of consumption: feed, search query, related, embedded,
type: based on past behavior
collaborative filters: people like you - fb login & social graph
Platform design should start with defining the roles of the producer and consumer and laying out their motivations for participating on the platform.
Game Design
A large goal can be broken down into a set of simple actions for users to perform repeatedly.
These simple actions enable users to obtain value from the game and progress towards a larger goal.
think of this in terms of what we could use incy amd audits to get it closer towards environment and sustainability
The most alluring aspect of game design is the possibility that simple actions could yield important consequences
Match
New economy runs on data. Platforms use data to match value units with filters.
Plug-n-play
The second phase of building out the platform canvas requires the enablement of the plug-and-play business model. The platform must balance the creation of an open, participative system with the need for quality control and relevance.
Communicating feedback from consumers to producers is the single most important driver of sustainable and repeatable interactions on the platform.
Repeatability and efficiency of core interaction
When implementing large platform projects, teams should ensure that they plan the roadmap in a way that progressively enhances the repeatability and efficiency of the core interaction.
Features, functionalities, and initiatives that do not directly affect the core interaction, especially in the early days of the platform, may distract the team from more important execution.
The effectiveness of an incentive should be measured by its ability to power the core interaction and drive higher value creation on the platform.
