What are the four forms of Imperialism
Protectorate
A country or territory with its own internal government but under the control of an outside power. Britain established a protectorate over the Niger River delta.
Sphere of influence
An area in which an outside power daims exclusive investment or trading privileges. Liberia was under the sphere of influence of the United States.
Colony
A country or territory governed internally by a foreign power. Somaliland in East Africa was a French colony.
Economic Imperialism
An independent but less developed country controlled by private business interests rather than other governments.
Three causes of Imperialism
Industrial Revolution
There were many demands for raw materials. rubber, copper, gold, and palm oil from Africa. Cotton and jute from India. Markets were created to sell manufactured goods.
Humanitarian and Religious Reasoning
There was religious fervor and feelings of racial and cultural superiority.
Nationalism
When you have nationalism, you have pride in your country. This was a cause for Imperialism because people wanted to have power which caused a lot of competition.

Negative Effects
Minority cultures had to adapt and change into a nations majority culture, ethnic cleansing, rise of the nationalistic movements, warfare caused by the competition between nations.
