What were the Positive Effects of Imperialism on the Colonized Natives?
The word Imperialism is a Latin Word from the Roman Empire, it means one country's domination of the political, economic and social life of another country.
I chose this image because I feel it represents Imperialism buy showing how the controlling nation reaches into the colonies and uses their materials for the betterment of themselves.
The first form is colony. A colony is territory that an imperial power rules directly through colonial officials. The second form is protectorate. A protectorate has its own government but its policies were guided by a foreign power. A third form is sphere of influence which is a region of a country in which the imperial power had exclusive investment or trading rights. The final form of imperialism is economic imperialism which is when an independant but less developed country controlled by private business rather than other government.
The negative effects of the colonized countries was the lack and loss of control over the land from the native people. Another was the new introduction of deadly diseases. The majority of the culture of the native people have been lost when the existing leaders had lost power and the Europeans forced their own culture and religion onto the natives.
One of the positive effects was the reduction of war. Others were there was more sanitation and the construction of basic infrastructure. Hospitals and schools were introduced and used.
The countries that became imperial powers were France, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Holland, Spain, Portugal and Russia.
Great Britain definitely made a huge impact because of the amount of land that the country owned. Having land all around the world leads you to having more access to different goods and different people which advances them for trade
B.Why Did Nations Decide to Acquire African Colonies During the Late 1800's and 1900's? Nations decided to acquire African colonies because they needed the natural resources that Africa had to industrialize
One major factor was due to nationalism. Rivals to build empires in pursuit of competition and power. Another factor was imperialistic countries would urge their citizens to move to far-off colonies. A final reason is for personal glory and profit motives, this was demonstrated in the 1850's when the British empire owned land all around the world.
