What Is Imperialism?
Imperialism is one country's domination over the political, economic, and/or social life over another's country.
There are four forms of Imperialism
Protectorate
Sphere of Influence
Colonies
Economic Imperialism
A colony is a country or territory that is governed internally by a foreign power.
A protectorate is a country or territory with its own internal government that is set up and is under the control of an outside power.
Sphere of influence is when an area is influenced by an outside power that claims exclusive investment or trading privileges.
Economic imperialism is when a business controls an independent but less-developed country's economy instead of its government.
Causes?
Religion and Humanitarian Beliefs
Pilgrims traveled to new lands and "set up camp" so that they can have the religious freedom and control over their beliefs that they couldn't have in their old country..

The Industrial Revolution sparked a need for new materials to craft with, and countries decided to "set up camp" in territories where these materials were easily available.

Countries felt the need to spread their culture and ideas to other places because they believed their culture was amazing and that others should be a part of it.
Radical nationalists ended up believing their culture and beliefs were superior to the culture and beliefs of others. This caused racism.
Powerful nations helped develop transport and communication systems in the weaker nations.
Improved medical care and better sanitation methods.
Formal education system was improved.
Colonies has no freedom.
New farming methods were introduced.
Overall improvement in the standard of living.
Promoted order, discipline and unity in countries.
Led to the exploitation of natural resources.
Colonies were used only as suppliers of raw materials and as a market for finished products.
Poverty was a huge problem in colonies as well as unemployment.
Traditional pattern of agriculture was completely changed.
Caused the loss of traditional culture.
Caused the extinction of native races of Africa.
Racial discrimination was practiced in some colonies.
