Hospitals
Advantages:The hospitals can easily transfer records of patients from one hospital to another allowing for the hospital to quickly operate appropriately. If a patient needs to be transferred from one hospital to another then the hospital can quickly see where to put the patient for the mot effective surgery/recovery.
Disadvantages: If the info-structure goes down at a hospital due to a glitch in the system or a virus then they cant access the records of patients because the hospitals rely on the system. If the system is somehow breached then all the records can be seen and taken by the intruder and can lead to thousands of patients privacy being breached.
Health Professionals
Advantages: The data is stored in one location and can be easily be updated and access. This allows the health professional to keep the record up to date to keep it as accurate as possible and allows them to quickly and easily access them.
Disadvantages: If the health professional makes an accidental mistake or mistakes a certain condition and then updates the record it can lead to the record being inaccurate to the patients condition and means their treatment could be wrong and could lead to more problems.
Patients
Advantages: Having all the data and records in one location can speed up the process of treatment for the patient. With all the patients data in one place and not spread over multiple systems it can greatly reduce the chance of confusion and problems.
Disadvantages: If there is a breach in the system or glitch leading to the record being deleted entirely or sections going missing the patient can have a increase in the time they need to wait for treatment and means that the patient doesn't have a record.
Solutions
Make a backup system with all the data, reports and records so if the system fails there is a backup that can still be transferred and updated.
Hospital managers could be provided with copies of the records just in case of system failure. However these files cannot be edited, updated or transferred between hospitals.
