how does Shakespeare explore the nature of love in Romeo and Juliet…
how does Shakespeare explore the nature of love in Romeo and Juliet (paragraph plan)
conclusion
intro
the form of the play
in the form of a play
old English and it has lots of exotic language in the higher characters and more simple language in the poorer language (see 11)
gives the affect of the audience finding it easier part the higher characters from the lower classed characters
the language would have been quite rude and humerus and most of the audience in that time would have been peasants and they would have found it funny and acceptable whereas now we find it rude and not funny
#
the play flows very well
this gives the affect of a very good and easy to follow story line and so the audience (in the pit) would have been able to follow and watch the play easily whilst having a good time
it is a popular jonra and past time in Shakespeare eara
down to earth and relevant to the public who saw the play
in that time the views towards women were very strong and would have been seen as inappropriate in the modern day (see 12)
all of the charectors have there own quirks
they all have very different personality's which means that they show and portray very different ways see (1 + parts of 6)
Juliet vareus forms of love changing throughout
she starts of by trying to conform with courtly love however this changes when she accidentally tells romeo that she loves him
a form of dramatic irony the audience know something that the character doesn't there is lots of different forms of this throughout the play
romeo D
he is a romantic character
he talks a lot about love
he falls in love instantly (marry Juliet within 24 hours of meeting her)
lust?
at first he is in love with rosoline
he starts the play in "sadness" because of love
his love for rosoline seems
childish
and
unrealistic
the fr says "thy love did read by rote"
mercutio mocks romeo for writing his love poetry "pronounced but love and dove"
his love is
'fake'?
Juliet says "you kiss by th'book" perhaps he is a good kisser but dosent put much feeling into it
he becomes more realistic when he meets juliuet
he gives a "faithful vow" to have organised their wedding "by the hour of nine"
their relationship is more
practical
and
real
family love/different types of love
different types of relationships within the play
romeo and Juliet
not the normal type and goes against the normal ways
julie and paris
unrequited (one way)
romeo and rosoline
unrequited (one way)
lord and lady capulet
lord and lady Monigue
the nurse and juliet
mother figger (wet nurse)
romeo and the fr
farther figger
family love doesn't really exist in these times lord Capulet controls lady Capulet and doesn't really let her do much as see when she is on the stage for a long time yet only said one line and lord Capulet said a lot more
courtly love
use essay (reconfigured)
Mercutio showing romantic love failing demonstrated by different characters
he give a lot of energy to the play and makes it a lot more lively however it is at the expense of the characters that he makes the jokes on
he also shows that romantic love is failing because of the amount of sexual innuendo and jokes he said
all of his view towards women are very sexual (the sing to the nurse)
romantic love to businesses
a lot of love in those times was made into a business transaction
Juliet parents want her to marry pars because of his high standing position in society and his wealth this would give the caplet family a even bigger position in society
the views the relationship is very materialistic and passive
Juliet father (lord Capulet) starts off by saying to paris (juliets sooter) to woo her
he then changes to become more like Juliet mother (lady Capulet) and she asks her whether she can love Paris this doesn't give her the choice the modern audience would expect
lord Capulet at the end tell julet that she will marry Paris the next day however as the audience we know that this cant happen
dramatic irony
romeos shifting love
he starts the play being love sick and trying to follow the conventions of courtly love with the
unrequited

his speeches are full of puns and innuendo
his attitudes towards love are cynical and a bit rude

the views on women in theses times 12
they are very materialistic and possessive
a modern audience would find it very rude and offensive however the audience at that time would find it acceptable
