ENERGY (DIFFERENT TYPES OF ENERGY (Chemical Energy - Chemical energy is…
ENERGY
-
RENEWABLE
To make energy renewable it has to come from a source that will not be depleted when used, will replenish in our life time and won’t compromise our planet.
SOLAR
Solar Panels - When a photon (packet of energy from sunlight) hits a silicon atom it knocks off one of the atom's outer electrons, these free electrons then make their ways to a metal conducting strip on the solar panels surface, the strip transports this steady flow of electrons (the electrical current) out of the cell so it can flow into the power grid for people to use.
Concentrated solar power (CSP) - CSP uses giant mirrors to direct sunlight on to a small target. The concentrated light is used to heat water and create steam that turns an electrical generator.
WIND
Windmills - Wind blowing across a turbine blade causes the three connected blades to turn. This motions pushes on a series of spinning parts inside the body of the turbine which then spins the generator producing electricity.
GEOTHERMAL
Hot rocks in the earth's crust hold temperatures up to 1,000 degrees celsius, water heated by these rocks turns into steam which turns the turbine inside a generator.
-
HYDROPOWER
Hydropower is produced by funneling water from a dam or reservoir through a hole. That water can then turn a turbine attached to a generator. This can also be accomplished by using the oceans tides. At high tide water is trapped in the reservoir then at low tide the water is released turning turbines.
FUEL CELLS
Fuel cells convert hydrogen and oxygen into water producing electricity in the process. The only byproducts of the process are heat and water.

GENERATOR
A generator is typically powered by water that has been evaporated into steam. The steam then rotates a turbine. The rotation is then used to turn the parts of an electrical generator, this motion causes electrons to be sent through the wires inside the generator, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy.
NON RENEWABLE Non renewable resources such as fossil fuels will not be replenished in our life time. It actually takes several million years to create fossil fuels, not to mention they are also harmful to our planet and are the number one contributor to global warming.
FOSSIL FUELS
it is estimated that fossil fuel supply will be depleted within the next fifty to one hundred years. Fossil fuels not only pollute the are but take millions of years to replenish.
COAL
In the US they burn 100,000 tons of coal an hour.
