slave vs free population- there was 1,000,000 free people and 8000-9999 slaves.

farms- The north had small farms. The south had big plantations. the south had tobacco and cotton for crops.

How did Geography impact the civil war. The north had new technology and business and small farms and didn't need slaves. But the south did because they didn't have much new technology or industrialization. And they had big plantations and needed slaves to do the work.

food rations- The north had pork, bread, vegetables, dried fruit, potato. The south had pork, bead, peas, molasses.
supplies- The north had rubber blankets, tents, canteens. The south had a much less version of a tent. so they would go steal from the north.
uniforms- The north had wool blue uniforms. And the south had tan uniforms that were like a jean material.

In the soldiers free time they played games, played card games, wrote letters.
Missouri compromise- The Missouri Compromise was a line that was above Missouri. Anything above the line was a free state accept Missouri and anything below the line was a slave state.
This is a cause of the war because they needed balance from the legislative branch so both sides could be even.
Kansas-Nebraska act- The Kansas Nebraska act was the act where states could decide if they wanted to be a slave state or a free state with popular sovereignty.
This is a cause of the war because they could still chose it they wanted to be a slave state or a free state.

Fugitive slave act The fugitive slave act is when a slave got away and a police man found the slave they would be played by the slave owner and they would also get a bounce and the slave would get a bad punishment. the slave owner would be mad because they were losing there slaves. The policeman would be happy because they would get a reward if they found the slaves. the free African Americans would upset because they could be caught and made into slaves.
Underground rail road. The underground rail road is what the slaves in the south used to get from the south to the north to Canada. a pilot is someone who directs people to freedom. a station is a safe place for the slaves. a conductor is a person who helps guide them to slavery.

Eli Whitney- Eli Whitney was the creator of the cotton gin. The cotton gin was a device that took the seed and separated it from the other part of the cotton. this made the slaves work harder because then they had to spend more time in the fields planting.
Industrialization- Industrialization is in the north when business started and in the north they had big plantations. They were based off of commerce and manufacturing.
Economy- the economy in the north was based on manufacturing and commerce. the north had tons of industries like yarn, blankets, clothing so there for they didn't need slaves. But in the south they needed slaves because they had big plantation that needed work.

Frederick Douglas- was an abolitionist who Wanted to end slavery so he write a news paper about slavery it was called the north star.

Robert E. Lee- was a general during the civil war for the confederate side and was know as a great leader.
Robert G shaw- Invented the cotton gin. The cotton gin made it harder for the slaves because they had to spend more time in the field planting more cotton.
ulysses S. Grant- Was a general in the civil war and then became a president and nobody liked him. he was a general for the union.

Gettysburg Address- Abraham Lincoln said we will not remember the words but we will remember the ground. We can not worship this land. We need to win this war. He said those words so they would keep fighting in war.
Emancipation Proclamation- the emancipation proclamation is when the slaves in the south were freed. The slaves in the north were upset because they were still slaves. The slave owners were angry because they couldn't have slaves. The slaves were happy because they didn't have to be slaves anymore.

Why did the opposite side surrender. Because The confederate men were starving, They were running out of supplies, And the union had more soldiers so the confederate side was out numbered.
