Robert E. Lee was the general for the south. He was very respected even after the war and known as a great war leader. He also got lots of job offers but decided t work at a college.

Underground Railroad
-
-
-
-
The underground railroad was a cause of the civil war because the slave owners were mad they were losing their slaves and it just made tensions rise.
Industrialization
-
Industrialization in the North was booming. They had factories where they produced yarn, steel, and fabric.
In the south they didn't have as much industrialization and didn't have the factories they mainly farmed.
These are factors of the civil war because since the north had the new factories and small farms they didn't have the need for slaves that the south did.
Food rations
-
-
The south would get peas, rice, and molasses
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri compromise was a compromise that said all new states joining from the west will either be free if they are above the line or slave if they were below the line. The Missouri compromise made Missouri a slave state even though it is above the line and it also made Maine a free state. States also entered in pairs to keep it even because they both wanted majority in congress.
The Missouri compromise was a cause of the Civil war because when new states were later being added they would be following the rule of the Missouri Compromise and it just made conflict.
Kansas- Nebraska Act
The Kansas- Nebraska Act was when new states would join the U.S. but they weren't going with the Missouri Compromise rule they were using popular sovereignty.
The Kansas- Nebraska act was a cause of the Civil War because no one knew what they states were going to do. So they were worried about having control in congress because the North wanted to stop slavery from growing and the South wanted there to be more slave states so the North couldn't end slavery.
Eli Whitney
-
The cotton gin was good for the plantation owners because they could plant more crops but it was bad for the slaves because now they would have to plant more and put in more work.

-
Farms
-
In the south they grew cotton, rice, sugar, and tobacco and they had huge plantations.
Supplies
The north soldiers would get rubber blankets, nice tents, and canteens. They also had stores around them where they could get essentials.
The southern soldiers got a tent. Since they didn't get as nice stuff they would steal the northern soldiers stuff.
Uniform
-
The south had tan uniforms made from jean material. The North called them butternuts because of their color.
-
Fugitive Slave Act
The fugitive slave act was a act saying that any slaves found in the north needed to be returned to their owner in the south. This act was good for the slave owners but bad for the slaves because they would get so close to freedom but get sent back and be punished. This was also bad for free African Americans in the North because a slave owner could go to the north and claim that they are their slave. This also affected the police in the north because they were encouraged to capture slaves by a bonus.
How did this (Eli Whitney, industrialization, and economy) cause the civil War
The North had new things and small farms while the south had big plantations that they relied on and needed slavery to keep their economy going.
