There were actually more farms in the North than the South. But, the farms in the North were a lot smaller than the ones in the South. In the North, they mostly grew wheat. Where as in the South, they grew tobacco, rice, sugar, and cotton. Though the South had less farms, the farms were huge, more than 1,000 acres. But since they were farming so much, they had to constantly move and expand their farms because they were soaking up all of the nutrients. And the North wouldn't let them use their land.
