Harriet Tubman was the helper of the slaves and helped them escape.
Abraham Lincoln was the president of the United States of America in 1861 - 1865. Had written the Gettysburg Address had said that the north should still fight for freedom. The Emancipation Proclamation made it so that the slaves would be free, but only the south slaves in the Emancipation Proclamation.
Ulysses S. Grant was the general of the Union side, and after the civil war became the president of the United States of America.
John Brown had helped the slaves armed with weapons so that way they could start a rebellion.
Robert E. Lee was the general of the Confederate side.
Harriet Beecher Stowe had written uncle Tom book.
Fredrick Douglas was the person who told everyone about the civil war.
Robert G. Shaw had fought for freedom and couldn't sue it, because African Americans weren't considered citizens.
The north had a lot more major cities than the south did. The north had about tripled the number of major cities.
The south had more acres of land for the farms and the north had farms, but had less acres for it, because the south had more slaves.
Most of the slave population in the south is way more than the population for free. The north has more free of a population than slaves.
The north had more railroads than the south, because it was so that the slaves had more options to were to go.
The cause of the civil war because of the physical and human geography is because the south wanted more major cities, and more railroads.
The union had blue uniforms with it made out of wool, and had some space to put stuff in. The confederate had uniforms with it brownish, and it was already worn in.
Most of the deaths in the war was mainly from diseases.
The union had stuff like cards, toothbrushes, and a pen plus card to write to there family. The confederate had supplies like some cards and blankets.
The free time for the soldiers was that they played card games, football, baseball, and wrote cards to home.
The union had food that was salted pork and some cornbread. While the confederate side had food like bacon.
It was a railroad that lead up north and helped a lot slaves escape from the south.
The best spots for the slaves to go were near Cleveland, Ohio and up north in Canada.
It was made to have slaves in the south go up to the north and try to be free.
Was used as a route during the civil war and went through the north and the south.
The slaves had made cotton in the south and others crops.
Most of the land in the south was used and based on farms and crops.
Some of the other crops that the south had were tobacco and rice.
Made it so that all states that were in the west, would be both slave states and also free states.
Some states that were made for this were California, Washington, Arizona, North and South Dakota, and Colorado. But there are also a few more.
A state that caused all this mayhem was California, because it was in between the line for the free and slave states.
Fugitive Slave Act
Was were when a slave in the south tried to come into the north to escape would then and could be captured by pilots.
If a slave were to try and escape to the north and become free were caught, then the slaves would then be beaten by there owner.
That could mean that the north slaves could either get away with it, or it can then get caught and have the same consequence as the slaves in the south.
Most of the states in the south had slaves that had to do so much.
Because of this, the north wasn't happy, so they had started the civil war.
The north had some slaves, but not as much as the south.
The Missouri Compromise is what made it so any states that were below Missouri would be slave states and states above it would be free states.
Some states that are above the line or above Missouri the state were Maine, Vermont, New Hemisphere, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. But there are a few more states.
Some states that are below the line or below the state Missouri, were Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Louisiana, and Tennessee.
Was the inventor on the Cotton Gin
The Cotton Gin was what caused the cotton to stop.
It made the cotton made in the south slow down. And the slaves wouldn't have to make as much cotton.
Cause of the Civil War
One cause of the civil war was that states weren't in the right spot and in the right section.
Another cause of the civil war was because the south wasn't fair on slaves.
The winner of the civil war was the Confederate.
The union had surrendered, because they didn't have a lot or enough men to fight it out.
