conflicts that lead to the war
the underground railroad was a result of the fugitive slave act it was created by slaves who escaped and people in the north who wanted slaves to have freedom. the underground railroad was a sytem of trails and houses which helped get slaves to Canada to be free it was run by pilots. who would go to the slave states and look for slaves who wanted to be free. then there were conductors who lead slaves to freedom. safe houses were houses along the trail that offered places to hide sleep and get food. the underground rail road lead to the civil war because it made southerners angry that the north was helping their slaves escape
the fugitive slave act was mostly in the north it stated that any slave caught in the north had to be returned to there slave owners in the south. this affected the slaves in the south because it made them it was harder to escape and they risked never ending beating. it affected the police officers because even if they were against slavery they wanted to catch them because they were given huge pay raises for doing so. it affected free african americans because police would capture them thinking they were slaves and they would be sent south. it affected slave owners because they got some free slaves and got there orignal ones back this lead to the civil war because it made people in the north very mad that they had to give african americans back.
The kansas Nebraska act was an act stating the that the territories that were in the west would be a free/slave state depending on the peoples choice which was called popular sovereignty. it allowed people to vote for what the state should be free or slave even if it was below or above the line. this made people very mad because when it did not become the state they wanted it to be people got angry and that lead to the civil war .
The Missouri compromise was a line it was on the southern border of Missouri and it split the untied states in two. the compromise stated that anything below the line except for Missouri which was above would become a slave state and anything above the line and maine would become a free state. This caused many arguments in the us when states would enter and be split by the line there would be huge depeates whether it should be a free or slave state an example of this was california which was split by the line but became a free state. this compromise lead to the civil war because there were many arguments about it and it made southerners very mad
technology
Eli whitney . eli whitney created the cotton gin. the cotton gin was a machine that would pick the seeds out of cotton so people would not have to do it and it would increase the rate of cotton production. you think this would help the slaves but it didnt it made it harder for them because they had to work even harder in the fields to keep up with the gin
industrialization mainly happened in the north the north was based on it they had many machines and factories to do work for them they created things like steel cotton fabrics and many other goods this is why the north thought the south should not have slaves
the economy was very different in the south than in the north in the south they relied on slaves and farms for pretty much all their money they would sell there farmed goods like cotton and other plants all around the world. in the north they created things with industrialization and created many goods like steel wheat and cotton fabrics and sold them all over the world

these three things lead to the civil war because the north thought the south did not need slaves because in the north they were doing just fine without them. but in the south it was the only way to farm the big plantions and earn their money so they got in a huge fight over it which caused the civil war
Life style
a majority of free states in the civil war had 1000000 to 2000000 free people living in in it. a majority of slave states had 800000 to 1000000 free people living in them
in the north they had much smaller farms and did not need slaves in the south they had huge farms and needed slaves
geography
geography in the south was really good for farming and so they had very large plantions with lots and lots of plants they also had slaves to help plant and pick all those plants to make it so it could go faster
geography in the north was much different they did not have that much farm land and had very small farms and did not need slaves
theses to different geography lead to the civil war because the north had smaller farms and did not need slaves so they thought the south shouldn't have slaves either
the north had alot more transportation and 70% of all us railroads were in the north well there was only 30% in the south making transportation much harder
in the north there was a bigger population and way more bigger cities they had almost 20 well the south only had about 5 making it was harder in the south to buy supplies and do basic things
soldiers
supplies for the soldiers are always limited but not as much in the north they were provided with tents blankets and even convient stores to buy basic hygiene stuff.
in the south though they had no convenient stores and no blankets or tents and would often steal things from the north so they could have them
uniforms the north had a blue uniform made of warm material and light and confortable. in the south they had very grey not much color at all and they where often called butternuts because of it but there uniforms were made of really bulky heavy material and was also very ichy
free time for soldiers were very similar in the north and south they often played cards wrote letteres home and played sports like football or baseball
in the north there food rations conceited of salted beef and
soldiers manly died of disease or bullets
food rations in the north included 12 oz of pork or 16 0z of beef and 22 0z of hard tack other foods included vegetables
in the south food rations consisted of 16 0z of bacon or 20 0z of salted beef and 22 0z of cornmeal other foods included where molasses and vegetables
