The South Soldiers lives were a lot more rough then the North soldiers although they did have some things in common like writing letters home, attending church, reading, and playing cards. Mostly all soldiers died from the cause of disease also. Though the North's sleeping conditions, food rations, uniforms, and supplies were quite better then the South's. The Southern Soldiers were known as the butternuts because their uniforms were tan/gray. The uniforms were not very comfortable for the Southern soldiers. The Northern soldiers got hefty and good quality blue uniforms. The food rations of the North were a little better the Southern's also. The Southern soldiers had peas, salted beef, pork. The Northern soldiers had salted beef, cornmeal, and pork. Both northern and southern soldiers carried their bibles in their personal items because church was important to both northern and southern soldiers. The supplies that the northern soldiers received were buttoned up tent like things to sleep in and uniforms and the southern received blanket like things to lay on top of and sometimes would secretly steal the northern soldiers tents. The soldiers received items from home also like soaps and special needs like that.
