Civil War
War
Uniforms- The North had uniform that were made of jean material and were buttoned together in the front. While the South had uniforms that were made of sheets or thin clothing that was buttoned together in the front. Neither of the uniforms were good in cool weather.
Death- Although there was a lot of death in the war in battles and in fight but the real killer was disease. A lot of men died in the war before ever shooting a bullet or getting shot at. There was still a lot of men that died in the war. These are the men that are in books not the ones that died before they shot.
Supplies- Supplies were a major part in the war. The North was given small tent that they carried on their backs when going from place to place. Both sides were also given canteens that were used to store water.
Free time- The soldiers from the North and the South had many the same ways to spend free time. They would read, play board games, or play football. They manly did the same thing every time.
Food Rations- The food for the war wasn't like going to a restaurant or have food made at home in the oven. The food was very poor and was almost the same thing every time. Solders would be given a certain amount of food that was meant to last 3 to 5 days. They weren't given much. The Norths main food was bread and the Souths main food was beef.
Government treatys
Kansas-Nebraska Act- This act was a law that said that states could become popular severity which means they vote on if they're slave states or free states. This made so of the free states mad because they could protectional get over ruled in the future. The same thing goes with the slave states.
Fugitive Slave Act- This act was a law that was made that stated that all slaves that escaped had to return to their owners. This act made all African Americans scared because even if they were free any owner could claim that they had escaped and make them be a slaves because the slaves had no say in it. There was a book made a runaway slave with the name of Harriet Beecher Stowe that talked about how bad slaves and slavery was and were treated.
Missouri Compromise- This was a document that was signed that stated that all free states would be above the Missouri Compromise line except Missouri. This made arguments between the North and South.
Underground Railroad- This was a series of tunnels that went for the slaves states to the free states that let the slaves escape. There were many different people that helped slaves escape all with different code names. A pilot would go to slaves states to find slaves looking to escape and take them to the tunnels. A conductors was someone that would guide slaves to the free states. Harriet Tubman was a conductor in the underground railroad.
Inventions
Industrialization- This is what was going on it the North. Factories and industries were being build and made. This made the South made because they didn't have to technology to do the same.
Economy- The economy durning the Civil War was extremely bad. Everyday items that were usually 3 or 4 dollars were now almost 20 to 25. Flower had a huge price change going from around 30 dollars to around 1,000 dollars.
Eli Whitney- Eli was the inventor of the Cotton Gin which was a machine that help farmers or slaves harvest cotton easier. This made owners want more land to plant more cotton and more slaves so they could harvest even more cotton even faster. This made the owners want more man power to use the gin and it wasn't hard for them to find because the North didn't need man power.
How did it cause the war?- All of these things helped fuel the fire of the war because the North was way more advanced when it comes to money food and technology with made the South mad. The South got mad because they didn't have these thing and they wanted them.
States
Major Cities- There was many major cities that were part of the war. There was a lot more major cities in the North though. The North had 19 Major cities while the South had much few with only 2 major cities.
Farms- The farm where a lot different for the North to the South. The Norths farms didn't have any slaves to harvest the crop or even a lot of people or man power there to harvest it. Almost all of the work was done with machines. They were also not very big compared to the farms in the south. On the other hand the Souths farms were huge plantations and needed a lot of man power to harvest and plant because they didn't have the technology to not do so.
Slave vs. Free Population- The slave population was extremely high in the south almost 3,000,000. The north however had a slave population of 0. It was almost flipped for free population though. In the North there had almost 1,00,000 while in the South there was only 80,000. There was a escaped slave that wrote a newspaper about anti-slavery acts. HIs name was Frederick Douglas.
Railroads- Railroad were of huge importance during the war. This was because they were faster than horse and faster than wagon. Trains could carry men, guns, or heavy artillery. They were many used by the North because they had much more railroad in the North than the South. The North had about 70% of the the railroad while the South only had 30%.
Ending of the war

Why did they Surrender?- Robert E. Lee surrender be his army was starving and didn't have the supplies to fight back against the North who was lead by Ulysses S. Grant.
Proclamation and Address
Emancipation Proclamation- The Emancipation Proclamation was a speech given by Abraham Lincoln that allowed slaves to fight in the war. The 54th regiment was sign allowing this. The Norths lead Ulysses S. Grant made Robert G. Shaw the lead or captain of this army. This was the first all African American army.
Gettysburg Address- The Gettysburg Address was a huge battle. This battle was the most bloody battle of the civil war. This is were most soldiers lost their lives. One key reason to why this battle is so important is because it was the deadliest battle from with civil war but it ended with a draw or a tie.
Geography
How did this help cause the war?- The physical geography of the different sides was much different. The North and South couldn't grow the same crops because of the different climates. The human geography which is what us humans did was an impact because of farming, railroads, and the major cities. The commas from the states category were the human geography effects on the war.
