Successes of Lenin
Social
Ideally, Lenin wanted a completely equal society where the former 'toiling masses' were free from the restraints of the 'exploiting classes'
The 'exploiting classes' were persecuted against, particularly the kulaks
The lower classes did suffer, however, due to the impact of War Communism
Lenin was unable to create an ideal communist state however he was able to incite a class war against the former upper classes
Political Control
-
The Bolsheviks took control of Russia in October 1917 and in doing so successfully set up a communist state
The control of Russia by the party was successful however it was a communist dictatorship rather than a marxist state
Economic
-
They imposed War Communism in the Civil War however made an economic retreat with the NEP in order to stay in power
-
International Relations
-
The Revolution did not spread and by 1921 Russia was isolated as the only communist state in a capitalist world
The idea of permanent revolution completely failed and Russia turned inwards and focussed on a policy of 'Socialism in One Country'
