Threads
Metric
ISO 68-1
- Define the theoretical profile of metric thread
ISO 261
- Specifies a large list of nominal diameter and corresponding pitch, both fine and coarse
ISO 262
- Chooses recommended diameter and corresponding pitch from ISO 261 ranging from diameter 1mm to 64mm
ISO 724
- Basic dimensions of threads listed in ISO 261 calculated by applying formula in ISO 68-1
Unified Inch Screw Thread
- Current recommended thread for inch fasteners.
Has the same profile as ISO 68
Defined in ASME B1.1-2003
Whitworth
- 55° profile vs 60° profile for iso thread
- Obsolete for fasteners as from 1965 but used for pipe threads, eg EN 10226 and ISO 7

British Standards
Coating
- BS 7371-1 - Specification for general requirements and selection guidelines
- BS 7371-3 - Electroplated zinc
- BS 7371-6 - Hot dipped galvanized
Product grade
- BS 4190 - Black
- BS 3692 - Precision
New designs should not use nuts conforming to these two standards as they are thinner than normal Style 1 nuts. They are more comparable to ISO style 0 nuts.
Threads
- BS 3643-1: Metric
- BS 1580-1: Unified (based on ISO 68-2: Basic profile, inch srew threads)
- BS 84: Whitworth
- BS 93: B.A.
Mechanical properties
BS EN ISO 898-1
- Part 1 - Bolts, screws and studs with specified property classes. Coarse thread and fine pitch thread
BS EN ISO 898-2
- Part 2 - Nuts with specified property classes — Coarse thread and fine pitch thread
Bolt & Screw
- Refer to ISO 1891 (Clause 4, Pg 28), for the distinction between Bolt and Screw between North American and European markets.
ISO standards use the European understanding of the two terms.
- As per European market, screws are fully threaded up to the head and bolts are partially threaded.
