-
autocratic managers

autocratic, or authoritarian managers tend to tell employees what to do
-
-
paternalistic managers
-
paternalistic managers tend to tell employees what to do but will often explain their decisions. they are also concerned about the social needs of employees
-
management: carrying out necessary tasks in order to achieve company objectives e.g. recruiting staff
the best leadership style:
a leader needs to versatile as the best style of leadership will be different depending on the situation. if time is short and the firm needs to react quickly to falling sales, an autocratic style might be the best. if the problem is difficult to solve the leader might involve others in the decision-making process, this would mean a democratic leadership style is more suitable. a retrenchment/rationalisation programme may need a paternalistic style to sell the reasoning to the rest of the staff
