We may or may not be able to feed future populations.
Claim 1
We
WILL NOT
be able to feed future populations.
Currently the world is providing food for the population of 7 billion people and the world can only provide food for a population of 10 billion people if people stop wasting food, and adopt a vegetarian diet.
By 2050, the world population would have reached up to 10 billion, and if the world is not going to do any form of action to prevent famine everywhere, everyone is going to die eventually
People are "too caught up" in their own things and "have better things to do" than inform themselves about this area.
There will not be enough healthy land/ soil for people to grow crops on
Claim 2
We
WILL
be able to feed future populations.
Since there is so much deforestation going in people must be using it for a reason. They either use it for more housing or new plantations. If these people who deforest use it all for plantations, we will be able to feed future populations. However, if we use all that land area for plantations, where will the future populations stay?
Whilst people are being born, many people are dying at the same time, so this may be able to compensate for the amount of people born.
People who are living in third world countries do not have enough plantations to provide for their people, however, they do not have enough money to ship food over from other countries to feed their population. If this were to be changed and the third world countries started to grow their own food, earn some money, the world might be able to feed future populations.
Many people in the world are capable of doing something about it and it has been somewhat recognized in the world. Take for example, I heard on the radio the other day about Take Away Hunger Day which was on the 28th of March. It was talking about sending food over to Uganda where people do not have enough food to nourish themselves.
Claim 3
Even if we try to change things and feed the future populations, nature might prevent us from doing so.
Climate change
High temperatures could destroy cops
Drought cased a drop in crop production recently
heavy rainfall/monsoon causes leeching of soil, unsuitable for planting and growing crops
Phosphorus
food production relies on phosphorus
Phosphorus reserves will be depletes in approximately 50-100 years
One of the three main ingredients in producing fertilizers
It helps plants convert nutrients into growing/building blocks
Desertification
Soil malnutrition
reduces farming area
Sea level would rise as a result of climate change, decreasing land space available for farming
Industrialized countries
1.3 of all food that is produced is throw away.
approximately 1.4 billion tonnes of food is wasted each year
People take food for granted and see it as an item that can come by all the time
