Well organised and disciplined - used leaflets and public messages to spread messages

Social Democrats and communists were bitter rivals - they would not unite to defeat Nazis

Different parties in the Weimar Government argued - support was withdrawn and the government collapsed

Great depression

By 1932, 6 million Germans were unemployed

Millions became homeless - they set up temporary camps on the outskirts of town

Sneaky deal

President Paul von Hindenburg didn't like hitler

He knew how popular and powerful he was becoming

The former chancellor, Von Papen though he could control Hitler, suggested to Hindenburg that they make a "Sneaky Deal"

Von Papen's idea was for Hitler to become Chancellor, but Von Papen would be Vice Chancellor and hold all real power
