He knew how popular and powerful he was becoming
The former chancellor, Von Papen though he could control Hitler, suggested to Hindenburg that they make a "Sneaky Deal"
Von Papen's idea was for Hitler to become Chancellor, but Von Papen would be Vice Chancellor and hold all real power
