Nuclear Energy
Radioactie elements
Stablity
The elements of high nuclear number is more stable with many neutrons because the strong nuclear force is weakened by the distance between nuetrons
The strong nuclear force exists between neutron and neutron, or neutron and proton, or proton and proton.
-
Decay
Alpha decay
The nuclear number of reactant decreased by 2, giving out the alpha particles
Beta decay
The nuclear number of reactant increased by 1, then give out the beta particles
Gamma decay
No change of the reactant, give out the gamma rays
Nuclear fission
Chain reaction
The one neutron triggers the element to become unstable. Then it begins the radioactive decay, give out another elements and neutrons. These neutrons trigger other element again, the reaction is sustained, and became enormous.
Uranium
Uranium 235 is used for the chain reaction. Once the neutron bombards the U-235, it becomes U-238 and starts decaying as it is unstable.
E=mc2
Mass defect
The mass of elements is different depending on whether they are put together or seperated. This difference of mass is called mass defect
The energy amount of multiple of mass defect and square of speed of light is created. This energy is enormous

Carbon dating
We can know the age of object by detecting the radioactivity using the properties of half life period.
