Mixtures Concept Map
Heterogeneous
A type of mixture where different particles are visible, and the solute is not evenly dispersed.
Suspensions
This is a type of heterogeneous mixture where particles are suspended in the mixture temporarily, before they eventually settle.

Homogeneous
A homogeneous mixture is a type of mixture that looks the same all throughout and has the same composition throughout. The particles in the solute are evenly dispersed in the particles of the solvent.
Solutions
Solutions are homogeneous mixtures, where the solute is separated evenly through a solvent. In this type of mixture, particles never fall to the ground or are suspended in the solvent.
Concentration/Diluted
A solution's concentration, or dilution is the measure of how solute there is in comparison to solvent. The more solute there is, the more concentrated a solution, but the less there is, the more diluted it gets.
Solubility
Solubility is the measure of the maximum amount of a solute a solvent can dissolve. If a mixture has absorbed the maximum amount of solute, it is considered saturated. If a mixture has not absorbed the maximum amount, it is considered unsaturated, and it is considered supersaturated if it has absorbed more than the maximum amount.
Solvents/Solute
A solvent in a solution is what the solute gets dissolved in. For example, in salt water, water is the solvent and salt is the solute.
Colloids
Colloids are a homogeneous mixture that have large particles. Unlike solutions, which are transparent because of how small the molecules in it are, a colloid is cloudy, and has large particles that are dispersed evenly throughout a solvent. The particles will not separate out.
