Medieval Europe Notes

Oceans and Seas: Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Celtic Sea , North Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea.
Mountains: Alps Range, Pyrenee Range, Ural Mountains, Carpathian Mountains, Eastern Alps, Mount Elbrus. Mount Elbrus is the tallest Mount in Europe.

Fuedalism
Lords and Ladies:-Owned huge units of land which were called a fief, which had the manor and surrounding area -Owned people who lived on the fief.
Knights: -Wealthy, yet under Lords and Kings because of the Feudal System -Fought for Kings and Lords.
Kings and Queens:-Had the most power -Distributed power among lords and vassels in exchange for protection -In control of Feudal System.
Shrek and Fiona has Easter Egg.
Peasants and Serfs: Peasants had the least of power -Some Serfs were free, some were owned -Not allowed to wear, red, purple, or green -Serfs were bound to the land

English Law
Angles and Saxons invade Britain in early A.D 400's. They created many little separate kingdoms. The Vikings attack Britain in the late A.D 800's. Alfred the Great unites the kingdoms and used the collected power to drive away the vikings. The united Angle land. Then in A.D 900 the Vikings Conquer parts of France and rename it Normandy. In A.D 1000 William conquers Normandy which was across the English channel from England.
Crusades
The Second Crusade was started in 1145. During the Second Crusade, Muslims fought back and the King of England defeated the Christians and captured Jerusalem. The Second Crusade ended in 1149.
The Third Crusade started in 1189. This Crusade was due to the Fall of Jerusalem. The Christians failed to capture Jerusalem.
A crusade is a holy war to recapture holy land. The first Crusade was started in 1095 by Pope Urban the Second. The first Crusade captured Antioch (Modern Day Syria) and reached Jerusalem in 1099. In Jerusalem, many Jews, Muslims, and Christians died. More specifically, 1.7 million people died. The Crusade ended in 1099.
Black Death
The Black death killed around 40 to 60 million people, which is half the population of Europe.
Some symptoms were black spots, sneezing, Diarrhea, fever and chills, vomiting, bleeding, stomach pain.
Fleas got in infected with a bacteria called Yersina Pestis. The fleas infected rats with the plague they had gotten too. The Rats infected humans by biting them.

In !469-1479 Castile and Aragon form to make Spain.
By the 1200s, the Christians set up three kingdoms in Portugal, Aragon, and Castile. The French won the 100 year war defeating the English in 1453. In 1469, Isabella of Castile married Ferdinando of Aragon.
Spread of Christianity
Monks had to do jobs like reaping, sowing, plowing, binding, thatching, haymaking, threshing, produced wine, ale, honey, and provided medical care for the community.
