Self Perception and Otherness
The Monster
#
In the Monster you see Henry go from being a well liked and even admired person in the town to hated. The perception people had of Henry is now completlely based on what he looks like and nothing to do with who Henry is as a person
Citizen
This story is about how we precieve people in society and make decisions and comments about them before we know who they really are or even care to know who they are. It also shows that this is a societal issue and the preceptions are rooted deep within society.
Prometheus Bound
Prometheus was a god and as such there is a preception of how he will act. When he breaks this doing something that he believed was right, he is punished very harshly for breaking the preception of what the gods thought he should do.
Frankenstein
Doctor Frankenstein is the creator of this monster who is destroying the lives of the people around him. He is precived to be resposible for alll of the actions of the monster.
The Monster created by doctor Frankenstein is an extremely large figure and does not look like a real human. Becuase of these physical charactheristics he is immediatley seen as the problem in this story
Civilwarland in Bad Decline
In this story you see how a perception of someone can lead you to a very bad place. The perception that Samuel was strong and was ready to protect the park because of his war experience. However this experience only leads to worse things happening in the park.
Good Country People
#
In good country people we see preceptions made by both main parties in the story. Hulga had judged Manly and Decided he was not smart enough to hurt her. However Manly also made an assumption based on the fact that Hulga was a woman that he would be able to take advantage of her like he had done to others in the past.

In the Handmaid's Tale there is a very strict structure based on gender were there is a perception the females are less than men.
