Medival Europe
Geography of Europe: 1. The main Medieval architectures in Europe were churches and cathedrals. Europe had many architecture phases like from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. 2. Europe is surrounded by 6 bodies of water. The rivers allowed easy trade and helped the economy grow bigger. Rivers made it easy to travel. Seas/rivers also gave safety and opportunities for trading. Wide rivers separated different cultures to develop. 3. Castles were generally built on hills. Castles were usually for the wealthy people. The crops that were grown in summer are wheat, barely, oats, peas, beans. In the winter they grew wheat and nye. Less wealthy people didn't have much furniture and they slept on stray mattresses on the ground.

Catholic Church: 1. In the catholic churches many of them would speak in Latin.
- Many people who believe in natural law believe that some laws are parts of human nature and don't need to be ruled by government.
- The name Universities comes from the Latin word for guild or to train.

Black Death: 1. Jews were blamed for the black death and food costs drop because of all of the death that were caused.
- One fun fact is that Ring Around the Rosie is based off of the horrifying black death.
- People would use flowers to help fight the disease.

Pope vs. King:
- Many different popes and kings were allies and enemies. The pope and king that were enemies were Henry IV and Gregory VII. Henry was the ruler and Gregory was the pope. Gregory excommunicated Henry from all of the church affairs.
- Henry stood out in the snow barefoot for three days outside of where the pope was staying to get his throne back. Soon Gregory agreed to give him back his throne.
- When Gregory became pope he thought that nobles and kings shouldn't be part of church activities. This made Henry mad because he wanted to be in the church activities.

English Law:
- The Magna Carta contained 63 clauses promising freemen access to courts and a fair trial
- Democracy is a system of decision making with an institution or organization or country.
- A system of trial by we got the system or trial by jury.

Spread of Christianity: 1. King Clovis was the King of the Franks that switched over to Christianity to be trusted by the Romes.
- The religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices.
- Only the Clergy( the officials of the church) were allowed to read the bible.

Crusades: 1: The crusades was a holy war to take back the holy land.
- To the Christians "Holy Lord" of a crusade was where Jesus was crucified and ascended to to heaven.
3: After the crusades it increased trade between Europe and the middle East, and together they broke down feudialism.

Feudalism : 1: In feudalism people serve the people higher than them. The serfs and peasants farm land and exchange for food from the knight. Kings, who are at the top of the feudalism triangle, give peasants and serfs to lords for military aid.
- Kings and queens didn't work for themselves and some didn't know how to even dress themselves. In fact, sometimes after a death of a servant or maid kings and queens would starve because they had no knowledge on how to get food or prepare it.
3: A town was made up of serf and peasant houses which were small with a limited amount of decor, farms that the lower classed worked on and the churches.

Reconquest: 1. While the Muslims ruled, they established mosques, palaces, and schools where Jews, Christians, and the Muslims could learn together.
- since the Catholic Church was so powerful, they had began entering their teachings, and feared they would weaken of others did not listen.
3.The church sent friars to go preach the Church's messages. In 1233 the pope established the Institution to abolish heresy.
