Population: Juvenille dentition center
Group therapy- Therapy Animals
Monday mornings 8am
Duration 2 hours
Frequency; 1x/week
Location: Recreational/common areas in the juvenile dentition center
Members come on a voluntary basis
Rationale
Providing a safe environment to express feelings
Sensory input from petting the animals will provide new or familiar experiences to the group members
Engaging in activities with the animals simulate relationships, trust, and care
Helps reduce anxiety
Offers opportunity for juveniles to engage in social participation and leave their rooms
Addiction Intervention
Group
Swimming club
Frequency: 2x/week
Duration: 1 hour
Location: YMCA Southwest
Evening sessions: approx 6-pm
Population: Recoveringn cocaine addicts
Rationale
This intervention creates a supportive environment for the recovering clients
Providing a safe sensory stimulation like swimming will increase endorphins in the body which will encourage them to participate with one another
Peer-support allows members to provide for eachother
Offer a healthy alternative to high intensity sensory input which was previously supplied by cocaine use
Sensory input is immediate and constant through out entire swim session
Reduce anxiety between withdrawal symptoms with scheduled sensory management sessions
The sensory stimulation the patients will experience will decrease their want to take part in harmful drugs
