Identifying triggers and temptations to addiction through informal interviews and remove them from their immediate environments (ex: removing shot glasses and ash trays)
Use interests found to help facilitate more participation in those areas (ex: interest in animals, volunteer at shelter)
Activity Card Sort:
"89 full-color photograph cards show individuals performing various activities and 3 versions of the instrument: (1) institutional, (2) recovering, and (3) community living. The client separates the cards according to his/ her level of participation in the activity and indicates whether that participation has recently changed" (AOTA).

Yoga, calming strategies and stress management to increase sensory system reactions (ex: physical exercise, stretching, breathing techniques)
Education for different strategies to engage in that will in turn create the same sensory reactions that our bodies seek

Informal interview about their addiction to identify what sensory needs the addiction fills

Interventions
Implementing sensory strategies such as calming theraputty to help reduce self-harming risks and stress
Education for different strategies to engage in that will provide sensory aspects that will in turn help facilitate more meaningful participation
