Role and Responsibilities of Medical Radiation Science Professionals…

- - - - Correct handling and positioning of patient to take quality images
      - Support and guidance to care for patient’s possible emotional distress.
      - Ensure patients are calm and have reduced stress before, during and after the images have been taken.
      - Ensure patient is full aware of all potential risks before consenting to the image being taken, aware of the effects of radiation. Instruct clearly about potential risk, help complete examination more smoothly, co-operative, won’t move during imaging and help to get a clearer image
      - Also involve other people not patient, patient family – may need to inform family members to avoid distress and provide assurance. Other health care professionals – radiologist, other radiographers, transporters – proper shielding, proper dosages to avoid radiation of other people. Shielding into the wall to protect people outside the examination room.
  - - - Position patient correctly to ensure best possible image. Good positioning of patient
      - Ensure settings of machine are adjusted for the type of image needed to be produced. Knowledge of radiation production and instrumentation. Operate equipment properly. Knowledge of radiation physics and instrumentation
      - Properly prepare the patient, ask them to derobe. Remove the necklace otherwise will produce and artefact on the image
      - Ensure equipment is working properly and up to date
      - Keep updating yourself about the updated technology. All of your practice should be based on evidence. All practice should be based on the latest research findings (Evidence Based Practice)
