Data Analysis
Statistical Questions
Example- Katie The Athelete is 19 years old. How old is the athelete
How To Do It- You look back at the question and you see that it said Katie
THE ATHLETE
is 19 years old she is the athelte so the athlete is 19 years old
Central Tendency
MEDIAN
The median is the middle. When you use it : the data has extreme values
Example: 2, 5, 6, 8 ,9 ,11 ,15
Middle number - 8
How to do it : You arrange the numbers from least to greatest then find the middle number. Then if there is two middle find the mean of those two numbers
MEAN
How To Do It- You do the mean by adding all the numbers then divideing it by how many number there are
Example- 5,2,6,2,9,5 - 5+2= 7+6= 13+2= 15+9= 24+5= 29 - 29 (divied by) 6 = 4.83333333333
You use the mean when the numbers are do not have extreme values
MODE
~how to mode~ 1. first you have to put it from least to greatest. 2 then you see which number is repeated the most. 3. then you are done
you use this when 2 or more numbers are repeated 3 or more times
Range
Range is the distance between
Arrange the numbers in order least to greatest.
Find the lowest and highest number
Find the difference between those two numbers.
Example - 6, 3, 2, 8, 9, 10, 14
arrange the numbers in order least to greatest
2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14
then find the lowest and highest number
2 and 14
then find the difference
2 - 14 = 12
So the answer is 12
Line Plot
A line plot is a graph that shows the frequency of data occurring along a line.
Example - 1 - 1 , 2 - 1 , 3 - 2 , 4 - 3 , 5 - 3 , 6 - 2 , 7 - 0 , 8 - 2 , 9 - 4 , 10 - 0
Box plot
Example-
How to do it-
Box-and-whisker plots are a handy way to display data broken into four quartiles, each with an equal number of data values. ...
Step 1: Order the numbers from least to greatest.
Step 2: Find the median of the numbers
Step 3: Find the median of all the numbers less than Q2
Find the median of the all the numbers greater than Q2.
Histograms
How to do it-
On the vertical axis, place frequencies. Label this axis Frequency
On the horizontal axis, place the lower value of each interval
Draw a bar shape extending from the lower value of each interval to the lower value of the next interval
Example-
I.Q.R
How to do it- Find the median of the lower and upper half of the numbers. The median is the "middle"
Subtract Q3 - Q1 to determine the IQR of the equation
Example -
