Patriotism is sometimes contrasted with nationalism, but it seems more accurate to restrict ourselves to chauvinism because both concepts are related to feelings (although they can not be limited to feelings alone) - first with love for their own nation, second with hatred for other. In contrast, nationalism is a political doctrine that has many varieties. In addition to the subject of patriotism, there is attachment and concern for the homeland, which consists of many historically and internally complex elements such as state, land, language, culture, nation, and individual regions of a given country with their specificity (the sense of local and regional patriotism is treated as a supplement to national patriotism). However, according to nationalists the highest good is the nation itself, often (though not always) understood in an ethnic way.
