Will we will be able to feed future global populations
challenges for food security
big ideas in question
population growth
food security-the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
we wont be able to feed future global populations
it will be challenging to feed future populations
FOOD WASTAGE
An estimated 25 percent of the world’s food calories and up to 50 percent of total food weight are lost or wasted before they can be consumed. In rich countries most of that waste occurs in homes, restaurants, or supermarkets. some of the reason for the food to be thrown out is because the food has a deformity or it might be right shade of colour. If these factors affected the taste or made the food dangerous for consumption then it would be appropriate. The 1/3 of the food which is thrown out is OK to eat. If a middleman was introduced by the government to export the wasted food to areas where it is required
against
over 3/4 of the earth is at medium risk of being food insecure
Food security differs globally. Food security means that the people of the country have all times have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food. The highest food security is in highly developed areas like Australia, america and western Europe. The medium risk food insecurity is in areas like south america, eastern Europe, Russia and china. The areas of the world that are in extreme- high risk of food insecurity is parts of Africa, India and Afghanistan.t
LAND DEGREGATION
according to the according to a new United Nations-backed study that calls for a shift away from destructively intensive agriculture a third of the world has severe land degregation
it is degraded because of farmers not caring for the soil properly. This may be due to using harsh pesticides over a long period of time eventually causing the soil to lose it's fertility. Plants like coffee, cotton, palm oil, soybean and wheat, can actually increase soil erosion beyond the soil’s ability to maintain itself as well
the types degregation include Desertification, deforestation, salinization, alkalization, acidification, waterlogging, and soil compaction are all potential threats to the livelihood of rural populations and to the future food supply.
Yes we will be able to feed future global populations
because of constant innovations and technologies
WHAT ARE INNOVATIONS?Innovation involves deliberate application of information, imagination and initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources, and includes all processes by which new ideas are generated and converted into useful products.
An innovation that has revolutionised agriculture is the Combine harvester which like its name suggests it combines the job of reaping, threshing, and winnowing into a single process.
The impact of the combine has allowed farmers to harvest faster and more affordably as there is no need for people as the machine does the work
collective learning
As the population increases so does the amount of people in communities. When communities become bigger they are able to use collective learning to their advantage. For example, especially in developing areas if a member of the community discovered a goo technique to farm vegetable that person will share the information so that the whole community can benefit.
because there is already a decease in the percentage of people starving from 1991-2016 so why cant we keep on improving
in 1991 the percentage of the the people undernourished in the word was 18.4544106198%. In 2016 that percentage dropped to 10.9147435214% of the world.
the amount of undernourished people has reduced because of government assistance and programmes as well as better technologies
yes we will be able to feed future population if current resources are used effectively to their highest potential
