Evidence (quotation):

“We stood in the trees in a circle around Miig, who was loading his gun while he gave us the charge for the day. We did this every second or third day, depending on the weather; sometimes it was hunting, others it was shelter building. Miig said it was apocalyptic boy scouts.”
Explain evidence:
Being resourceful means to understand and make use of all the resources you have at hand. Sometimes it’s by applying previous practices and skills to your current situations.This is an important character trait because being able to use the resources at hand in difficult situations helps the leader and it’s team survive rough situations.

“Miig acknowledged me with a
look
and the sought out chi-boy with his eyes. He motioned with his head to the east of our site, keeping in a crouch and hurrying to the trees.”

Explain Evidence:
Miig is an effective leader because he showed this leadership trait well throughout the book. This is a good trait to have when you are a leader. A delegate trusts others with a task or responsibility. This can be helpful because it is a way for a leader to encourage their team members and help them to develop mentoring and coaching skills. This can also help develop themselves throughout the process.
Wise
Evidence (quotation):
“Sometimes, french, you gotta trust that people are making decisions for the better of the community based on things they know that you don’t.”

“Thing is, french, sometimes you do things you wouldn’t do in another time and place. Sometimes the path in front of you alters. Sometimes it goes through some pretty dark territory. Just make sure it doesn’t change the intent of the trip.” he put his right hand in the center of my chest. “As long as the intent is good, nothing else matters. Not in these days son.”

Explain Evidence:
Having wisdom is important for leaders. Being wise means the leaders are experienced and have good judgement and more knowledge. This helps the leader make better decisions when they need to choose between two tough options. Not only does this help the leader with their own decisions, it also helps the leader teach some of their wisdom to their followers and helps them make better decisions. Wisdom goes a long way so it’s definitely better to have wisdom and be able to teach it.
Assuring
Evidence (quotation):
“We survived this before. We will survive it again. Trust that there is always someone who has taken the greater good as a mission.”
“Exactly. We all can do what we can to survive. Right now, they can chase us. And us? We can run. It may not always be this way and who is to say what we will be capable of.”
Explain evidence:
Being reassuring is important for leaders because when working on big projects it’s easy for the leader's followers to lose motivation. When you lose motivation, you want to give up and not continue. Especially if the situation is difficult. Having a reassuring leader can help you regain that motivation to continue again. Not only does this trait help leaders to give their followers motivation, but it also allows the leader to be sympathetic. Sympathy and reassuring go hand in hand so this allows leaders to give their followers an emotional support as well.
Connection
Delegation is used in many businesses around the world. Just like how Miigwans ordered and gave his family members tasks and responsibilities to prepare them for the future, the heads of business companies also use these methods for interns. The interns are given tasks and responsibilities that they will face once they become a part of the company. This is similar because the intern and the followers share the same roll. The employee helping out the intern with training by giving them tasks is a leader, just like how Miigwans is displayed in the book. As much as this is similar it’s also very different because the plot of the story is different than the real life connection.
Connection
Reassuring is not only used by leaders but it is also used in relationships. Around the world, many couples reassure each other in tough and difficult situations using common quotes such as “don’t worry you can get through this”. Since sympathy and empathy is also needed to be reassuring, many people who have are part of a relationship are empathetic towards each other because they’ve experienced a similar situation or can be sympathetic because they feel pity or sorrow for the person. For example, Frenchie can be empathetic to the rest of his indigenous family because everyone has lost someone from their birth family just like Frenchie has. However it’s not necessary to only be empathetic to a person because they’ve lost a family member. It can be for many reasons such as heartbreak, broken trust etc.
Connection
Throughout the book we got to know that many of the characters lost their loved ones due to the circumstances their world was in. Whether it was friends, family or lovers. Someone lost someone special. Just like in the book, families around the world lose their loved ones as well. Especially war filled countries. Despite the fact that there are innocent people living in those countries, bombs are set and guns are used almost everyday which results in innocent people dying. This is similar because it brings the same pain the characters feel when they lose someone they loved. However it is also different because the story is set in a post apocalyptic world somewhere in the future. However wars are occuring in this world this year, last year and many many years before that.
