Statives are argued to be a separate part of speech, called predicative adjectives, formed with a- prefix
form - can't take synthetic form of comparison, but can be analytic (the most aware of the situation)

not used in attributive preposition like adjectives, combined with nouns and link-verbs (the household was astir)

state of an object in space (askew, awry, aslant)
physical state of an object (afire, ablaze)

qualitative - denote various qualities of substances with the ability to measure quality - high or low (a very awkward situation, too difficult task, not a very hearty welcome)
relative - express properties directly related to the substance (wood-wooden hut, history-historical event, colour-coloured postcards)
