The Forrest Grape Ride
PURPOSE
Bring capital to the Marlborough/Blenheim area to increase the economy and local businesses through the influx of tourists and need for accommodation, food etc.
Promoting the Marlborough/Blenheim area to the tourists in hopes that they will continue to come back or tell their friends/families to visit.

Provide Blenheim with a sporting event that all ages can participate in. It would also attract tourists and locals from all over NZ and the world.
SPATIAL NATURE
Blenheim is very accessible. It receives direct flights from NZ's 3 largest airports- Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington. Two of which have international terminals. Blenheim is also very close to Picton - Ferry terminal from the North Island to the South Island. Accessible to participants from the south island - Nelson, Christchurch, Kaikoura and Dunedin.
The Blenheim/ Marlborough region already has a large amount of accommodation readily available to be booked. Blenheim also has public transport available - buses and taxis to get to and from the event and also around the region.
The spectacular views and environment that Marlborough provides allow organizers/ event promoters to take advantage of by advertising amazing scenery on the courses.
Marlborough is very environmentally clean - provides another trait for organizers/ promoters to advertise.
CHARACTERISTICS
The cyclists get to ride through the various scenic areas Blenheim, Picton, the Marlborough Sounds and everywhere in between has to offer.
Cyclists get to choose which course the want to participate in. They can choose to race competitively or for fun. The courses are: 42 km - $75
101km - $110
202km - $110
The event has various food stalls on site, the winery itself sells wine on the day, and participating restaurants are there. There are also other stalls selling Grape Ride merchandise and other products.
Participants are able to win prizes. Overall there's $100,00 worth of prizes including a trip for 2 to Rarotonga, Bluebridge Ferry dicounts and up to $60,000 worth of wine.
Cyclists over the age of 18 are given a free bottle of Forrest Wine at the finish line for completing their course.
2016, Organisers added a section to the Graoe Ride 101km and 202km courses. When travelling through Momorangi bay, cyclists have an option to stop off and have a break or a coffee and a muffin while their time is paused.

The Grape Ride is a national, regional and global event.

National - Participants from Nelson, Christchurch, Wellington and other various regions travel to Blenheim to participate.
