The bell represents Catherine, who was blind about her feelings but eventually veils out her real feelings for Newt when the bell rang.

He is a shy man who could not tell his real feelings to his love, Catherine. However, this time, he goes AWOL from the military to tell how he really feels about Catherine to her before he leaves to Vietnam.

She is a woman who is secret about her feelings. Even though she had feelings for Newt since when they became friends, she still did not tell anything to Newt. She is getting married next week with Henry, however she changes her mind at the end of the story.

Henry is a man who is getting married with Catherine next week.
