- - - - Activity: Students will in partners choose a random page in the novel being read within the class and pick words to research.
        students will pick unusual words from the chapter read that day and research in dictionaries and online for their history. Students will need to find the information about where the word originated, how it has changed over time and the definition of it.
        Students will then document this in their workbooks to keep a record of the histories and how the words may have changed over time.
    - - Activity: Students will use made up words from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and use their phonic knowledge to sound them and try to spell them.
        Students will be given a list of words used in Charlie and the chocolate factory. The students will analyse the sounds in the words as their partner says them and try and spell them without looking at the written word. Students will also be given real words to spell that a reused in the chapters they are using. Students will be asked to note the sounds used and letter patterns that were used and how other letters change the pronunciation of words such as the 'ch' sound and the 'c' sound.
        These notes made will be discussed with the rest of the class.
  - - - Activity: Students will create a presentation for their buddies in year 3.
        In the presentation, students will need to include a summary of Charlie and the chocolate factory using a powerpoint with youtube videos in groups of four to explain the story. Students will need to alter their presentation to make it suitable for year three students in a language they can understand.
        This will develop their understanding of altering presentations for a prospective audience.
    - - Activity: After reading the full novel students will analyse the texts use of text structures and language features. Each chapter will be given to an individual group of students to analyse.
        students will make a brainstorm of characteristic text structures and language features used in their chapter in the novel.Students will be in groups of four to search through the chapter and find devices that Roald Dahl has used to make the story imaginative.
        This brainstorm will be presented to the class at the end of the lesson and be displayed in the classroom pin-up board.
    - - Activity: Student will compose an article about a missing golden ticket that happened just before the grand reopening of the factory.
        students will write an article edit it themselves in one colour and hand it to the teacher, these articles will then be handed back out for marking by another student in another colour.
        Students will then give the articles back to the teacher for final marking and write them up to be displayed in a class newspaper.
  - - - Activity: Students will make a poem inspired Willy Wonka, they can choose one scene they liked, an event that happened or even a character.
        Students will take out their workbooks and make a brainstorm of all the ideas they have to include in a poem for their chosen scene, event or character. In the brainstorm, students can include metaphors, similes or personification they have made up.
        
        The poem must make use of Imagery, Similies, metaphors, and personification. The students will then hand their work in for marking to the teacher. These poems will then be typed up by the students to display in the classroom.
    - - Activity: Form a text that includes fantasy settings and characters inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
        After reading the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory students will discuss in small groups ideas of how they can create their own setting for a short story. Students will then individually complete a drawing of a creative and imaginative world like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. From this picture, students should create a short story involving a problem in the setting they created with two or more main characters around the sentence "They ran in terror to be caught between..."
        once these stories are complete the students will swap with a partner and read each other stories.
    - - Activity:Students will be given an English lesson to rewrite the part of the story where Charlie finds the golden ticket from another child who didn't get the chance to go into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.
        This will allow students to take into consideration how the story can change from another perspective and create different interpretation and responses. To extend this activity students can also put the story into the perspective of another character.
        Once the stories are completed students in small groups can discuss what they completed in their story and what kind of feelings their character felt in the story
- - - - Activity: Students will map and allocate certain landmarks on a grid of Willy Wonka's map.
        Students will be given a worksheet that states questions for them to allocate certain landmarks on the map of Willy Wonka's factory. An example of questions that would be "What are the coordinates for Willy Wonka's chocolate fountain?" Students will need to map the coordinates of this location on their worksheet.
        As a class, the students will go through the answers with the teacher to mark them.
  - - - Activity: students will create a survey on Google forms for their classmates and display the feedback in a grid.
        Students will create a list of questions to ask their peers about the novel such as "What is your favourite character?" These questions should be entered into a google forms survey for peers to complete. Once all students have completed the survey the data will be formulated by google forms.
        Students will then document their results in a grid in their workbooks to be discussed with the class.
- - - - Activity: Students will conduct an experiment to see how cold they can keep ice in a cup by using different insulators.
        After beginning to read the novel over time in the classroom students should conduct an experiment in class in groups of 3 or four. There will be grouped tables for each group of students with the materials laid out for them. The students will be given salt, alfoil, cotton buds, paper, fabric, and cardboard to test as insulators. Students will wrap the cups in these materials and find out the best solution.This will be tested by a thermometer in each cup. Allowing students to conduct an experiment and solve the problem of which is the best way to insulate a chocolate factory to keep the chocolate cold.
        They will then write a report to solve this problem and find the best insulator. As a class, the students and teacher will discuss the results and make a tally of what the best insulators are throughout the class.
  - - - Activity: Students will experiment how to change the size of lollies and make predictions. The teacher will introduce the experiment which is making giant sweets!
        Students will be asked to make predictions about what will happen if gummi bears are put in hot, warm or cold water what will happen. After making predictions students will conduct the experiment and examine the results.
        Students will then need to come up with questions to help discuss the results with the rest of the class.
- - - - Activity: Students will create a design of an invention for a candy or chocolate that would be perfect in Willy Wonka's range of treats.
        Students will draw their idea and make an advertisement poster that advertises a reasonable price and is targeted at the correct audience. Students will need to factor into the price the cost of ingredients and labour for the chocolate bars in a table.
        Students will then post their advertisements around the classroom and the class will vote on their favourite candy bar to see what the favourite candy is.
  - - - Activity: Students are to develop a set of questions to influence the design of their own candy bar.
        Students should construct a list of questions with multiple choice answers for students to answer to ensure their candy bar design they will make is suitable and relevant. Students will write their questions down on a piece of paper leaving room for a tally next to each multiple choice answer. Students will walk around the classroom making tallies on their peer's surveys.
        Students will then examine the results and use this to help their designing of their candy bar.
- - - - Activity: Students will construct a drawing of a character with Pablo Picasso's influence.
        Students will take a character from the book they have researched and created their own interpretation of them inspired by Pablo Picasso. Students will need to research Pablo Picasso's paintings prior to completing there to make a design that successfully represents the artist's style.
        This artwork will be showcased in the classroom for all students to see.
    - - Activity: After watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film and reading the full novel students will construct their own building.
        The Willy Wonka inspired building must be influenced by an artist they have researched prior to making the design.Their design prior to making must include visual art elements and various materials to enhance their design.
        Students must construct a model of their building that they have designed and present it to the class.
  - - - Activity:Students will watch the movie of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and listen to the soundtrack used in the movie.
        While students are watching the movie they will be required to take note of how each song makes them think and feel. The students will need to describe in musical terminology what the producers have used to make them feel this way.
        Students will then split into groups where they are each given a song and they will create a mind map of all the information they collected.
