Storm Shelter Project By Skyla, Ward, Hernan, and Corey
This was our original idea, we were going to make a dome with marshmallows, toothpicks, and notecards
Our fixed idea was to build a support on the bottom out of straws, glue the popsicle sticks together to make the dome shape, and put marshmallows on the bottom to weigh it down. Then we would put notecards on the top.
To build our project we used toothpicks, marshmallows, glue, tape, popsicle sticks, index cards, and paperclips.
At the beginning we were going to tape the straws together to make our base.
About 3 minutes in we decided that our original idea wasn't really good, so we tried to quickly plan something else.
So our new plan was to build a house-like structure with toothpicks and marshmallows. Then we put notecards on it with tape.
Next we glued some popsicle sticks around the toothpicks to give it extra support.
Then Ward and Hernan thought it would be a good idea to wrap tape all around the structure in case the wind blew away the weak notecards.
Next we were trying to figure out some ways to weigh down our structure so the tornado simulation wouldn't knock it down or blow it away. We ending up taping straws to one of the sides of it for "aerodynamics."
Corey then made a decision to glue down popsicle sticks on the bottom to weigh it down.
At the very last second we turned our shelter on its side because that design was much more safer.
Here is our structure surviving the hail simulation
And here is our structure surviving the tornado simulation. As you can see it only moved when it was blew on the lighter side with full power.

During the last tornado simulation our structure didn't move a bit. And yes we had a paper towel under it, the glue was leaking out of every side.
Our final thoughts are if we were to remodel this again, we should probably focus a lot more on planning out an actual design instead of throwing stuff together and pouring glue inside. But considering that, our project did achieve the main goals which was not to move and not to fall over.
