When Hamlet’s father , the old king of Denmark, died, his brother Claudius became the new king and married Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother. One night, the Ghost of his dead father revealed itself to Hamlet, it told him that he was poisoned by Claudius so he began to want revenge: to kill his stepfather. Hamlet accidentally killed Polonius, Ophelia's father and he had a sword fight with Laertes. But he and the king had put some poison on the sword and in the wine of Hamlet.
